I don't find much about IR-1 and what it is, is it faster than K1 or cheaper?

IR ones are for married couples, the K1 is for non-married.

K1 is generally faster than the spousal visas.

You'd have to ask someone in that forum about costs...I'm not too familiar with the fees on spousal visas.

Let's Keep the Song Going!!!

From a cost perspective when factoring in the adjustment of status need for a K-1,... the IR-1 would be slightly cheaper, but not much.... As was previously mentioned, your marital status will determine what you qualify for....

The purpose of creating the K Visa Category was to have a faster and simpler procedure than IR1/CR.

Also, when the K Visas became available for Spouses (K-3) the objective was to reduce the time families were separated waiting for a green card abroad.

On that context, one would think that K-1 is faster than IR1. Whether on the practice, the waiting times can vary depending on each case.

Just to add - IR-1 is for married couples who have been married for more than 2 years when visa is assigned. For newlyweds and the like, the result is a CR-1.

For fiances, the only possibility is a K-1 non-immigrant visa; then get married in the Us and file for Adjustment of Status.
