SSN Question

I was wondering, did any of you that did not have an SSN until you got your EAD, wait any time after you received the EAD before you applied for the SSN or did you go right away. Please let me know if you applied right away and how long it took to get it. And also if you waited, how long did you wait, and how long did it take to receive.

Since ours is K1, applied after 14 days of arrival in the US, but before even applying for the EAD/AOS and got it in less than 2 weeks.

I applied for SSN after i received my EAD, though the SSA employee said that i have to wait 30 days, i got my SSN card on the mail in 10 days .

As soon as I got my EAD I went back to the SSA office. I was told my EAD and my sons was still "pending". Had gone back several times and my son's EAD was valid but mine wasn't. I finally gave into them and put my application in. With help from my senator, I got a print-out of my SSN within a week and had my card by the end of 2 weeks. So, from recieving my EAD until I had my card was about a month or so. As soon as you get your EAD, go to your local SSA office. If they say your card is pending, just get your application in.

thanks for the info everybody. the same day my wife received her EAD she went to the SSN office and applied for it for both my son and herself. they did not tell her anything except that it should come within ten day, if it doesnt come within 2 weeks to call them. would they have told her that her EAD isnt in the system yet if they couldnt process it and if there would be a longer wait? its just that she needs it asap cause she has been offered a job but they arent letting her start until she has the actuall SSN card.

cool, hopefully we will get ours fast too. so you had no SSN before that.
