Hello everyone!

This is my first time post so I would like to say thank you to everyone who is active on this website. It truly is a life-saver. The information on here and just seeing that there is a whole world of people going hrough the same thing is comforting. My fiance and I have been living together for 2 years (he had a work visa) and now we have been apart just a month and it really sucks. Any idea's or suggestions on how you have made things easier/faster through your process? We talk on the phone once a day at least and on instant messenger. We will be meeting in Canada on the 21st so I look forward to that.

Any advice for the newbie?

Thanks!

Wendy

Advice about making the process faster? If anyone figures that out they need to share ;)

Advice about making it easier? Just live it day by day. Patience is the key. Be ready for unexpected and annoying delays. So much of this process is out of your hands that it helps to sort of forget about it and let it go at its own annoyingly slow pace :P

Just keep yourself busy and remember, when this is all over it will be worth it.

Good luck on your journey :)

wow, that's a tough one. remember you are in love and you are lucky. it took us 2 and a half years before we were really together (our longest stretch together after meeting was a month, which is more than many people here on VJ, but so much less that those without immigration woes (I like to call them The Norms)).

now that we're together for real and forever, i can say that it is SO wonderful. every minute is like a gift, and in a twisted way, it's a gift other people don't have. i don't see us taking each other for granted any time soon, or hopefully ever. because all we have to do is look back and remember all those times when all we had was the phone line and we remember how lucky we are.

hang in there - it is worth it. and you WILL make it.

Our journey:

4/30/08 - AOS/EAD/AP mailed to Chicago lockbox

5/1/08 - packaged rcvd at lockbox

5/8/08 - All 3 NOAs received (dated 5/6)

5/8/08 - check cashed

5/10/08 - Biometrics letter received

5/27/08 - Biometrics appointment

6/10/08 - case transferred to CSC - YAY!

7/11/08 - rcvd emails that EAD card ordered and AP approved!

7/18/08 - AP rcvd

7/19/08 - EAD rcvd

7/29/08 - received email: card production ordered

8/2/08 - GREEN CARD RECEIVED IN MAIL!!!

Hi Wendy, we have a 10 year relationship and lived together for a couple years before we were 'parted' as well. All of his things are here, we had a life with him in our home and now just feel like we're in limbo. It's been 7 1/2 months now that we've been apart with just one visit since then. NZ is VERY far away and VERY expensive to get to! :( It's been very difficult but, as mentioned above, keeping busy and keeping positive helps a lot. Coming here for the support helps me a great deal. There's just a comfort you can't get anywhere but from others in the same situation.

I know it's hard... but we also know what awaits us... and that is what's keeping us going!

good luck. I hope the process is fast for you!

I worked a lot of overtime.

I focused on other things, like planning for my wedding, organizing my stuff to eventually be shipped to the US, spending time with my family, etc etc.

Distracting myself helped a lot in keeping me focusing on things out of my control!

The distance is not easy.. but... by going through this I know Kris and I will always cherish every moment we have together both now and when we are finally together. Its the bond that continues to flurish between us, the knowledge that we have had to tackle so much and overcome so many obsticales to be together that our life together will be great once we are over this hurdle. Keeping yourself busy will help but there will always be times when things seem very grey. I work alot, I have my kids and my writing to keep me busy but there are times when it doesn't matter, when I miss him so much it hurts to breathe but I continue to remind myself that this is nearing an end and my best friend and love of my life will soon be in my arms forever.

Keeping this in mind will help. Stay strong and remember the love and bond you share.

Start making plans on the wedding... like what color would his suit be, and how your invitations would look like.

I'm making for my baby a calendar for each month with me on it. That's fun.

than, talk on skype so you could hear and see eachother at same time. that makes things much easier.

talk about every little thing that happens everymoment, don't have to be too important.

invite him to have dinner with you. propose him a glass of juice if you're drinking a juice while talking to him.

try to make it as real as possible.

you will survive, trust me.

good luck, cheer up (F)
