Does anyone know if at Washington DC airport, you have to go through immigration first before retrieving your luggage or is the other way round. My finance will be arriving at Washington DC airport and I am concerned if she is delayed at immigration, her luggage might get lost.

It depends. BWI and Dulles are the only international airports in the D.C. area. BWI is in Baltimore and Dulles in in Virginia. National Airport or Regan National (as it's) called is not an international. She will have to go through immigration first. Her bags will be fine. I've been delayed plenty of times and no worries about my luggage. PM me if you have anymore questions.

....when it hurts to look back and you're scared to look ahead LOOK beside you and I'll be there.....

There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore... and who always will.

So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.

Based on my trips to Dulles as a visitor - you do immigration ( immigration as a visitor can take a while too depends on how many flights have come in at that time ) then collect luggage

Hope this helps

check out my time line and dont forget to update yours too :D

I came through DC when I returned from my trip to Ethiopia and I saw all of the people with visas enter through another line and had their documents verified before they can retrieve their luggage. The wait there for the new immigrants are extremely long about 2 to 4 hours. If she is transferring to another state then she will need to check in her luggage in the same area then go to her check in counter with her carry on. After that she will need to go through the security line which can take up to 45 minutes. Then she will go to her gate. Hope all this info helps. If you need any help with this send me a message.
