i think this needs more research. i'll volunteer to be a test subject :innocent:

I agree. I can provide the EEG materials as well as do some of the blood sampling for oxytocin levels, etc... But we'll have to have a set up so that we can sample within a set amount of time post "experimentation"

Isn't science great??

of course, we'll need plenty of test subjects and controls. where's almaty?

The title of the published paper... could go something like

"Neurophysiological effects of elevated hormone levels in adult cohort: contact stimulation"

And of course there'd be a follow up study with more real-time analysis using fMRI machines to show BOLDactivation of certain areas of the brain...

 sounds like a good idea for a government grant.

Hey maybe I can write that in to my thesis proposal as well...

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Breast feeding became 'en vogue' about 30 years ago.

We all know it has benefits. I think it's beyond silly to now propogate the notion it adds to intelligence. That's like saying flip-flops contribute to better posture.

We're only beginning to discover the chemical reactions and chemistry of the human body. I don't think a mother should feel guilty or ashamed if she didn't breastfeed, anymore than a parent who discovers the enormous benefit to reading to her child everyday, but hasn't. Every mother has to decide what works for her and her child, but I would hope the choice to breastfeed or not goes deeper than just a personal preference. :)

Well gee Steven.

That's beyond rude and condescending.

It's not the topic...it's a scientific study that came out linking higher IQ in children who were breastfed. I'm not sure why that stirs up controversy.

no one is hating on breastfeeding.. we are hating on the fact that they are trying to say that breastfed babies have a higher IQ.. that sounds like bull ####### to me...

I was not breast fed and neither were my brothers and I got A and Bs in school.... :P

There was a time when it was not socially acceptable to breast feed a baby. It was considered something that 'poor people' did.

I just think equating what we eat with intelligence to be.....silly. Good nutrition helps learning, we know that. But you can't say that mothers milk, across the board, is more nutrituous than formula.

I get annoyed about this because I think it's more pressure on women to conform to whatever the current 'perfect mom' model might be. IMO it ranks right up there with pigeonholing families based on what kind of car seat they have; what their kids wear; how many social activities the kids are in, etc.

Good kids don't equate to a kid with a high IQ, anyway.

Gah - let's all get out our cookie cutters and try to create the perfect child. Pffffffffft.

Don't be hating the science though. It's an attack on science and all that is sacred with science.

Steven -

A couple of studies does not 'science' make.
