Hello all

Last weekend I heard the dreaded RFE message. I called Monday and verified it was the DS-230 not entered into the system yet.

This weekend I heard the dreaded RFE message again. I could not imagine what I had not sent in. I called this morning to find out. The lady I spoke with was very nice and said I needed my husband's military records. Well, in Peru the records are unavailable. The NVC wesite says unavailable when you look up the country and the embassy says to submit an additional police record. Therefore I sent in the extra police certificate (4 total). The lady said I needed something else which was identified by NVC as an identification at best, not a military record.

I called my husband to find out what this thing is. He said that everyone has one. I didn't think this was really necessary, so I called the NVC again this morning. I spoke with another lady. She said the military records were missing. I explained that what I read was that there are no military records available. She told me she was looking in the Foreign Affairs Manual. Then she put me on hold. When she returned, she had spoken to her supervisor.

I had to write a letter that stated the military records were unavailable. I asked if I had to write the letter even though they already knew the records were unavailable. She said yes. (The NVC information did not say to write a letter and the Embassy says to submit the 4th Police certificate.) At least it is better than trying to get something from Peru that isn't necessary. I should be very hapy right now, but instead I am very frustrated with the government.

The moral is if you have anything that is unavailable call NVC first and talk to more than one person.

I have one question. If I already have an RFE letter from the first RFE, can I use it for this RFE? Only the date would be different.

Thank you

Joanne
