My fiance received a notice that the NVC received an approved I-129 F petition filed. That letter contains information regarding the name of fiance, INS receipt number and case number MNL 2008xxxxxx and the address of USEM where it will be processed. Furthermore, it also informs that the fiance will "soon" receive a packet with instructions from the consular section.

I am concerned of the word soon. How soon is that term "soon"? That sounds relative. Until now I have not received the packet yet. How long it takes before the K1 beneficiary will receive that packet of information?

Despite what NVC sent out, USEM doesn't send out the packet. the forms are downloadable and printable from the US Embassy Manila's website. As far as any official letter or what have you from the embassy, they actually will send a letter after you have scheduled your interview to inform your fiancee of the documents that need to be filled out.

The USEM website has the phone numbers that can be called from within the Philippines or from the US. The Philippines number charges the caller by the minute, the US number forces you to purchase a PIN for $18 which is good for 2-3 calls.

I received the letter from USEM three weeks after we had our case number. But we didn't wait for it to call USEM and schedule our interview. Ryan called USEM a week and a half from the day NVC gave us our case number. It was enough time for our documents to arrive in their office.

When you get the letter, keep it and provide a photo copy. You can use it during your medical exam and interview.

So you mean ryanriza, we have to call the USEM in setting the schedule for an interview appointment even if I have not received yet the letter from USEM?

If you are sure that your papers are with USEM already you dont have to wait for the letter to arrive.. you can call and set up appointment already...

We called two working days after USEM received our papers... I received the letter from USEM more than one week after I already have the appointment schedule.

If you are not in a hurry to get your interview appointment schedule then I guess it will be ok to wait for the USEM letter.

That is what we did and most people here in VJ. As what Gaye said, if you are not in a hurry you can wait for the letter and call USEM after you have it. But I think that is unlikely :)

I just called the phone number for the embassy to schedule an interview. They don't have anything about our case so calling can be a waste of time and $18 for the PIN number. So it's kind of a small gamble but now I know we aren't missing out on anything because nothing is happening.

Those that were able schedule an interview before getting a letter telling them to do so were lucky because otherwise you just have to play the waiting game.

When did you get your case number from the NVC? Maybe you can call NVC and ask them when did they send out your papers to USEM. Good luck

Please read Section 4.3 of the Manila Embassy K1 Visa Guide. The USE does NOT mail Packet 4 nor the Visa Applications to the beneficiaries as of March 2008. However, the USE does send the beneficiary a letter indicating that their case files have been received and that they may schedule their visa interviews. For more information please reference Section 4.3 of the Manila Embassy K1 Visa Guide.

Cheers!!!

"When did you get your case number from the NVC? Maybe you can call NVC and ask them when did they send out your papers to USEM."

I'm not at home to check everything but I know I have the case number since April 14th. I assume we had one when the visa application was approved by NVC on April 3rd. I'll probably end up calling NVC because over a month seems pretty long when others got some notice a few days later.
