medical exam: sputum test..

hi fellow VJ's.. i'm a new nursing graduate and we are on K1 visa with my fiance now. I am a little bit afraid about the medical exam regarding sputum test in detecting TB. since i do my duties in hospital and we are quite expose of such disease, im concern that they may detect a latent TB in me (which is not communicable, its just because we are expose to that bacteria) and i am not manifesting any signs and symptoms of TB. would it be wiser for me to have a sputum exam here in our city in advance to detect if ever i have latent TB? since if St lukes could detect it at time of medical exam, they might require me to have 6 months medication for that. if possible we want to avoid delays... need your opinion guys.

If i am in your situation, i would have a sputum exam to check if am infected by TB. If the result is clear then i would ask the doctor if they could give me any antitubercosis drugs or an advice that he/she recommend to me to avoid from having TB (since you said you are exposed to diseases). It is good though that you can't see any signs of TB to yourself

It is better safe than sorry.

Question? If you just had a chest xray 1 month prior to St Lukes exam and it was all clear. and St Luke takes their chest exam and see's something, do they accept the photo of your 1st. xray to compare results? Just a general question

If you tell them that you recently had your chest xray and brought your xray result... yes they will compare it, but still the recent (st lukes) result will be acknowledged. if the st lukes see's something n your chest xray they will require you for sputum test.. and if your possitive of TB you'll be under medication for 6 months.

My wife just had her medical on April 23 and SLEC saw something on her x-ray. She just completed the 3 days of sputum testing and the preliminary came back negative. She now has to wait until July 2 to call back for culture results. Latent TB is different from active TB wich is contagious. You can have latent TB and it will not affect your visa as it is not contagious.
