Dolma, where in Italy were you? What was your job?

I was living in la bella Venezia, my dream city at the time - after I got my first Master's I just saved up $3500 and took off. I was actually an illegal immigrant though I never actually overstayed my visa - this was pre-EU so it was possible to do visa runs. I taught English under the table at several different language schools in the area, did a little translation and interpreting as well since I speak Italian - good times....

I have a friend who makes pretty much that and lives in the same building as James Gandolfini and Julianne Moore. At one point 5 eyars ago, J-Lo lived across the street. It's a rough life, living among the celebrities.

Depends on how you define it - I wasn't actually an illegal immigrant, I was in the country legally but technically I wasn't supposed to be working - my wages were off the books - rather like a large percentage of Italians... I should have worded it differently I guess...

Perhaps some of us see it as stupid when we can find what makes us happy for a lot less money.

If you have the money to buy expensive things, but you prefer not to because you think it's stupid, fair enough!

However, if you don't have the money to buy those things, saying that "it's stupid" is class envy in its purest form.

but while half the world suffers as much as they do, it is simply OBSCENE to drop thousands upon thousands on designer labels and other such things that are simply not necessary for a comfortable, happy life

and that's not class envy, it's having a social conscience
