My fiancee lives in Seattle and I live in Abbotsford (about 1 hour from Vancouver), we are just about to file the K1 Visa. I usually drive down to Seattle on the weekends and spend about 3 days there a week. After we send in our application is it possible for me to continue making these trips? Further I have heard that some people petition directly to Montreal for permanent residency, is this a better route for us?

To apply directly for permanent residency you must be already married to the USC. I believe it is the CR/IR 1 that gets you direct permanent resident, but i'm not 100% sure.

And yes, you can continue to visit the US while your application is processing. As you will read here, you may be asked to provide strong ties to Canada do that they do not believe that you are moving to the US. Strong ties include a lease, employment letter, bills, etc.

I personally had no problems crossing both times I came down while waiting for my K1 to process. I was never asked more then the usual questions, but I know others have had a harder time. Just be prepared and answer all the questions you are asked honestly.
