Hi VJers,

Just looking for some techie opinions.

i'm looking to buy a new laptop soon, and i'm thinking of making the switch to Mac.

i mostly use my computer to do a lot of writing (Microsoft Office).

and my new computer, i'd like to use for writing, downloading & listening to music, phoning via the internet, maybe getting into some more graphic design and HTML.... maybe some photoshop-ing

so that's the basics... should i make the switch??

thanks!

Based on the things you list, I would buy a Mac. Almost all programs you need for graphic designing and webdeveloping can be used on a Mac (stuff like Dreamweaver, Photoshop etc), Microsoft Office is available for Mac as well and of course all other programs to listen to music, watch videos, internet telephony and such are all possible on a Mac.

I would go for a Mac if I were you, if money isn't an issue and if you are not someone who want specific programs which cannot run on a Mac (well, guess it can all run on it when you install Windows on it lol but then you lose your benefits of having a Max imho) then you should get a Mac :)

:D Ha! You may be right, my fellow Jersey friend,

but i'm only a stone's throw away from one of those hippies...

Amiga is making a comeback.

Get one of those Macs that can run both MacOSX and Windows XP (or if you really want to try it, Vista). That way, you'd have the best of both worlds!

Yes! i was just reading about this... i'm trying to build one online right now...

in further procrastination of doing real work...

i LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my mac... i have an iBook G4

there has been really only a very small number of incompatibility issues for me over the years... my father has built his whole company on macs...

from what you are describing, a mac would serve you well!

hmmmmm...

yeah, i feel like anyone i ever talk to who has a Mac, LOVES their Mac.

what about viruses and bugs? is it true that Macs don't get bugs and worms and other vermin like PCs do?

(forgive my un-informedness)

just that most people tend to focus on PC coz its pretty common and the system is very familiar too... of course they can give mac a virus but i believe since PC is so widespread, they can deliver the virus and be famous real quick lol...

Same here, virus free and hopefully it stays that way! I LOVE my mac, I think it is so much more user friendly than PC's. My husband has a PC and it is forever crashing, getting viruses, impossible to find things etc. I had the same probs when I made the switch to PC in college. I went back to mac and now my husband is considering the same. He likes gaming though, and unfortunately that's one of the few areas where mac's haven't caught up. Other than that, I have had very very few (in fact no probs with my new macbook) compatibility issues. Sucks they are more expensive though :(
