Iraqi official: 'America has hardly even begun to repay its debt to Iraq'

As Congress gears up to debate the Bush administration's latest request for an additional $108 billion in war funding for Iraq and Afghanistan, Iraqis are fuming at suggestions being floated by lawmakers that Baghdad should start paying a share of the war's costs by providing cheap fuel to the U.S. military.

"America has hardly even begun to repay its debt to Iraq," said Abdul Basit, the head of Iraq's Supreme Board of Audit, an independent body that oversees Iraqi government spending. "This is an immoral request because we didn't ask them to come to Iraq, and before they came in 2003 we didn't have all these needs."

No, but it's a Republic....

And larger than many - if not most - other countries.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Texas was a nation many years ago in 1836, before it joined the United States. So technically speaking, it could fit the criteria, I suppose. Although the main differences include that Texas joined the U.S. willingly and did so in 1845, a time much different than our own today. Mexico wasn't particularly thrilled by either arrangement, but due to the Mexican-American War, the U.S. obtained what would become California, Nevada, Utah and parts of Colorada, Arizona, New Mexico and Wyoming. Just for reference, Mexico didn't leave empty handed and was paid $15,000,000 USD (which was less than what the U.S. originally offered before the war and loss of American life).

Death tends to happen in all wars, not excluding wars of aggression of all flavors.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
