i totally agree..i had a mother bring her 16 year old son to my office a few years back....she told me she bought him some cocaine ..and let him use it in order to get him there...the kid was swaeting ..and paranoid as hell..i stuck him in the pysch ward and hot lined the mother... nothing surprises me at all,.. too many years in the field

Can't say I approve of this, but I do have a good friend in Louisiana who used to smoke pot with her (then) 16 yo son. I wouldn't have done this, but I understood her logic. She guessed that he would smoke the stuff anyway, and would rather he did so where she could see him and make sure he didn't do anything stupid like try to drive or whatever.

The result was that he was pretty responsible with drugs and booze. It all changed when her violent (and estranged) husband started making spurious allegations in order to harass her. With the CPS poking around, of course she had to stop supervising his pot use. And now? Her son is either in jail or well on his way there. Drug problems, of course. Need you ask?

Maybe if she'd tried to get him help to STOP drugs, find out his reason for using and sorted THAT out, instead of condoning it, he wouldn't be a drug addict now... What did she teach him? Not to be responsible about to drugs but to a. make him think it was 'ok' to take them and b.taught him to turn to drugs in a crisis.

Drugs are still illegal or maybe she chose to 'ignore' that part.

To me that's like saying I'll sit in the car with my kid when they have drunk too much to make sure they don't crash.

Its not a solution.
