It is not easy to find a job with a decent enough pay in Davao. I just thought I'd mention it. Be ready to support your sister-in-law for a year.

With due respect, it is not the OP's responsibility to financially support his future sister-inlaw .

I think you are misunderstanding my POV. He is offering to help out when the fiancee's sister becomes unemployed. I am not implying he should do it, but given the hardship of finding a decent job in that area, he should know what he's getting himself into.

I know. Hence, my reply. READ the OP's previous post.

FYI, I am fully aware about having and education to just be able to get a job. Nurses can't even find work in PI now.

Of course I offered to make sure she had enough money to live on, That's not a problem for me, Thank God.

I wanted her to go back and find a job in Davao area, I like the area so so much better than Manila area.

I explained to her I would take care of her until she found a job, but she told her sister she is afraid of being sued. I tried to talk to her, but she has her own thougths on the subject.

I am not implying he should do it, but given the hardship of finding a decent job in that area, he should know what he's getting himself into. It was just an honest-to-goodness advice. For how long would he be willing to support the sister? It is up to him but he should be prepared for the worst.

And with all due respect to you as well, I know that it is not his responsibility. It's totally none of my business. My reply was based on his previous posts. READ the OP's previous post.

I am just trying to point out how tough employment is in that area, given the minimum wage and low cost of living..

Peace out. I'm outta here.

It sounds like you are the naive one and not your fiance's sister. Situations in Philippines is not like here in America. Otherwise you wouldnt see so many young women in Philippines hanging out in Internet cafes.

Normally, filipinos cant act with the same bravado you just told your fiance's siter towards their employer. Here in America your advise is understandable. In Philippines, Im not so sure. They might not sue her but they can fire her.

Think about it... she has a low paying job and lives very far away from her family. That should tell you how hard it is to find a job for most filipinos.

FYI.

Please don't read information into my post it just makes you look asinine.

She hates her job and hates Makati.I Paid for her to go up to Manila area and have supported her until she found a job.

She had foot swelling from standing so much at work, Employeer told her it might be diabetes, so I payed for doctor visit.

Her Job hours are 3 day a week for 12 hours each, and then 3 days at 8 hours. She does this each week.

As far as family goes, She basically has none. Except for her sister and I.

The parents basically abandonded the fiance and sister at very early age, Infant age for my fiance. She was raised by Grandparents since the Grandfather was a lawyer they had better life. The mother lives in another country, and rumor is the father was shot in the head during a robbery while working in gold mine in General Santos.

Grandfather died a few years ago, Her Grandmother whom she and sister was living with died while I was visiting in November 07. So I had to get my fiance an apartment to live in so she could finish college, and I paid for sister to go to Manila area to find work and place to live.

Fiance is finished with college and now I have extra funds for sister.

So I'am planned on supporting her until she can find a job in Davao area, even if it takes years.

She will have a lot better chance on finding work in Davao if she is living in the area and out looking for a job in the area.

As opposed to slaving away at a dead end job in Makati.

What does it say in her contract?

I was in the same situation, somewhat, and for years. 12-hours of constantly on your feet and night shifts would definitely take a toll on your general health. I simply handed in my resignation letter, and found another job.

They cannot sue her. But it's always best to exit the company without burning any bridges. She can do that and move on to a better job.

tallcoolone, I think the others intentions are good, but the thread is getting sidetracked from your original question.

I would do whatever you and your fiance feel is in the best interest of her sister. I can see your eyes are wide open and are not looking for advise on the support aspect. It's your lives, so do whatever you feel is best.

I used to work as an HR in PI and basically the contractual employee signs a 6-month contract. If your fiance's sister signed a contractual agreement, it means she is not a regular employee yet and no leave benefits for that matter. the 2-week VL given to her was a discretion of the management (or her supervisor). However, if she signed a leave form for 2 weeks and been approved by her company, then she doesn't need to go back early unless the exigency of her job needs her to be present before the 2-week period is up, in which case, an internal arrangement between her and the company should be done. she cannot demand an airfare as it was a personal expense but as i have said, an internal arrangement is always possible. Being a contractual employee doesn't entitles her for mandatory benefits as well as fringe benefits. And yeah, the company can fire her anytime they want even if the 6 month period is not done yet. The company can always reason out "you have not reached the company's standard of efficiency". Some companies give an initial job performance evaluation and usually its after the 3 month tenure. At the end of her 6 month contractual employment, she is either be hired as a regular employee or end the contract. No extension as discouraged by DOLE unless she occupies a different position. So if she did not go back and hasn't received and signed an end of contract on or before the contract ends (which i think is the reason why she was asked to go back asap), she should be automatically a regular employee and in that case, she can file a complaint case at the DOLE. Hope it helps....

yes, i agree. it's not my fiancee's obligation to support my sister. ive been telling my sister to find another job in davao instead of manila but she wanted to finish her cotract first, just for experience. that's her decision. well, atleast she could add that experience in her resume in finding new job after she finish her contract. my sister is a college graduate, management accounting. indeed, it is very difficult to find job here in PI with high salary. but one good thing about filipinos is that, though everything seems so hard, we can manage situations like this. Sipag at Tiyaga lang yan..

to my fiance, thank you for your concern baby. i really apreciate all that you had done to me and my family. i love you so much...
