Hello gang,

I'm just keeping abreast of each step along the way to

keep the timeline as speedy as possible on my end.

Although, my wifes interview wont be till the fall,

I want to have everything together for the p-3 to

have sent back to the Bangkok Embassy asap.

I see the police reprot is good for 24 months, so when I return

to Thailand in June, we'll get the police report taken care of.

Now, my main question, how long is the medical exam good for?

How long before the interview, are you able to have this done?

I'll be going back to Thailand to see my wife in September also.

We could have it done then, but if possible, June would be best

in case things speed along.

Any info would be appreciated.

Frank

When you can have the medical exam depends on the consulate and the doctor I think. I dunno about the Phils, but in Canada we can't even have the medical exam until you have the interview letter from the consulate, they won't schedule it.

Besides which, you don't want the medical to expire before you apply for AOS once she's in the US with the K3. If the medical expires before you apply for AOS, she'll have to have another medical exam, at further expense. And they cost more in the US than they do usually in foreign countreis. In my area, the civil surgeons want $400 for a complete immigration work up :P

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

We just went thru this in the last 90 days.

Check to make sure of the facts on the life of the police report. I think its 90 days not 24 months.

You will not get the medical done until you recieve the medical documents from the Embassy. That will be sent to you after they recieve the inital docs back from you from the P 3 or they will issue the medical docs to you at the Embassy. You then take them to one of the two offices, complete the tests & are issued the paper work the same day. That is returned to the Embassy the following day for the interview.

Yes, the 24 month thing was an error on my part which had to do with reciprocity.

I'm still trying to find out info for Thailand (BKK) time frame on the police report and how long the medical exams are good for....

I've been through this before with a K-1 in China....

but K-3 in BKK is a bit different and things have changed since the K-1.

OK, gotcha, thanks.....I spoke to soon on my last message.

Since the original inquiry came from Birch-Beer, whose fiancee is going through the Bangkok embassy, I can provide some first hand information to some of your questions based on our recent experience with the Bangkok embassy.

My fiancee got her medical exam before she got her Packet 4 papers (which included the medical exam form). According to the embassy (they emailed me when I emailed them to check on the status of her application) you can get the medical exam anytime but the exam is only valid for 12 months. You can download the exam papers from the Bangkok embassy's website.

Thanks Sojourner-

It seems the BKK Embassy is a little more relaxed than other places......

I was there in March, when my wife and I got the gov't affidavit so we could marry.

What about the police report? Know anythng about it?

I'll probably stop back in the Embassy when I return in June, just to get some info.

I'd like to get the police report in June and medical in September, that is if things

move along through VSC.

Was it ever decided for sure how long the police report is good for? If they're scheduling interviews 3 months out we don't want to get it too early if it's only good for 90 days.

I'm afraid my DIL is going to be overwhelmed with the package it sent her today. Does anyone know good legal counsel in Bangkok or Hua Hin? I think she might need someone there to walk her through the process. Her last experience at the US Embassy was traumatic. I am trying to help her from this end, and that is a bit difficult. My son isn't much help because of his remote work situation. We hand delivered his NOA 2s to him at the end of a dirt road in the mountains. At least he is making really good money so he can prove he can support her!

Best wishes to everyone else on this journey.

The general rule is the Consulate will accept a police report less than twelve months old but the best practice is to get it as close to the interview as is practical.

I am interested in this same information but each consulate is different.

The Chinese Consulate in Guangzhou will have slightly different rules than Bangkok.

I've done a K-1 through Guangzhou before, now doing a K-3 through Bangkok and I'm not so sure to be jumping on the bandwagon of 12 months across the board for every consulate.

I'll send the BKK Embassy an email and ask, but no telling how long it will take them to answer..

OK, I just returned from a 2 week stint visting my wife in Thailand. Whilst in Bangkok, I stopped in the ole' Embassy to find out about the police report.

Thailand police report is valid for 1 year.

I asked the 2 little Thai girls who organize the paperwork at the interview line. They him-hawed around and said 6 months without any certainty in their voices. Clearly, they had no clue. I went in and asked the US rep and she then directed me to the immigrant interviewer window. She wasnt sure either and walked off promising to return. 10 minutes later, she comes back and says 1 year and gave me an information paper. The address listed for the police report is different than the one downloadable from the website. I will post the info later today.

Aaaand while I was in Thailand, our I-129f got touched to boot........

It's always best to be as precise as possible. It really doesn't matter a whit how long a Thailand police report is valid. What matters is how old a report is acceptable to the Consulate's Immigrant Visa unit. Some police reports actually have "valid until" or "expiration dates". The Consulates don't care about that because they have their own rules.

So, what you were told at the Consulate was not how long the police report is valid but rather the maximum time prior to the interview, it can be obtained and still accepted by the IV unit. The two may or man not be the same thing.
