It can take as short as 4 months, and can also take YEARS to process AOS depending on name checks.

You file the application to the Chicago PO BOX specified by the I-485.

Much better if you went with the CR-1 [i-130]. You wouldn't have to worry about AOS then plus the $1010 that goes with it! You wouild have SS card right away also without waiting for AOS approval.

They expire only if you don't get to your interview for the K3 in time. Each country is different for length of validity however, so check the website for the consulate where he will be interviewed.

Once you're in the US on K3 however and you're applying for AOS, you no longer need the police certificate, and your marriage certificate never expires. All that is is a piece of paper that shows you were legally married. AFAIK, there is no expiration date on marriage ;)

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

Thanks for your help. I have e-mailed the embassy asking the expiration on the police certificate and never got a response. Is there an average expiration like 1 year? Would this be listed int he letter they send my husband?
