I just got the DVD from Netflix yesterday and plan to watch it today... so hope it's good!

Please report back. I may buy it. My brother gave it a thumbs up, but his reviews can be shaky!

It's very excellent movie we bought a dvd last month and we watch it twice... :thumbs:

I read the book several years ago, not long after it came out.

As is typical, the movie isn't as good as the book. But it's pretty well done, and it takes a lot less time and effort to watch the movie than to read the book. The movie skips quite a few details, and adds a romance angle which probably isn't backed up by the facts. Wikipedia has some details on the differences (along with spoilers, so you might want to watch the movie first).

Either way, it's a fascinating story.

Good movie. Story reminded me of a kid I knew back in college who was into adventurous stuff like that and somewhat of a free spirit.

I only read the book, which was amazing itself. I'd like to see the movie and have read that its quite good (from a critic's perspective).

I loved the book! I started out liking the movie, and I'd still recommend it, but it wasn't nearly as good as the book (as usual). It was actually a bit boring, IMO. I concluded that the storyline really isn't compatible with a movie format. You really need to read the words to get the full impact. It's all about thoughts. Thoughts don't make a good movie.
