Does anyone know how to get an International Drivers License in Philippines? Or can I use Philippines drivers license in the US for a little while until I get a new one?

The law varies by state I'm sure. You need to find what state you'll be driving.

In New York and California, you can drive with just your Philippine license

Here's a quote from NY DMV website.

International Driving Permit: An International Driving Permit is not a driver license. The permit only verifies that you hold a valid driver license in your home country. Your foreign driver license, not the International Driving Permit, allows you to drive in NYS.

And here's a quote from USC Intl services

Despite common misconceptions, the State of California does not recognize an International Driving Permit (IDP) as a valid driver license. Therefore, getting an IDP is a waste of time and money. California does recognize a valid driver license that is issued by a foreign jurisdiction (country, state, territory) of which the license holder is a resident.

So... it seems getting an International license is a waste of time and money. You'd probably be fine with just your PI license until you can get a US drivers license.

International Drivers Licenses.

I doubt that would work in USA.

Each police officer would interpet the law in their own way regarding International Licenses.

I have a couple of friends that are police officers in USA, I have asked about International Driver Licesnes and they never new they exisited.

Best plan if you are going to reside in USA, Is to get a Driver License from the state you live in. Very easy test to pass. Most kids at age 16 get thier Driver Licenses in USA.

Check the web site for your state's BMV. It will vary state by state as to what their laws are. In Ohio the Philippine license is good for up to a year or until you obtain employment. The Internation driver's license is really only usefull when the foreign license is in a language other than enlish.

i agree! better to check your local DMV rules, they're available online anyway. here in VA you only need the international driver's license if your valid foreign license is in a language other than english. its somewhat similar to that of Ohio's as rjp44 stated.
