from maiden name to middle name....

hello all....

my fiance wants to take my last name and put her maiden name as a middle name....but she feels this will be to much of a hassle.."change passport and any other important identification"..if new name is on marriage certificate will this affect her japanese passport now?....would someone please enlighten me on this....

i would greatly appreciate the help...

If you change your name, you must change it everywhere! IDs, passports, credit cards, bills, etc.

Me and my wife were in the same position, trying to decide what to do with her name. She wants to take my name also. But my wife now lives in Argentina but is from Peru. So when she looked into changing everything through the Embasy of Peru in Buenos Aires, this was going to take alot of time and alot of things she has to do.

So, our decision was to leave her name as it is for now, and also on the marriage certificate. After she is in the United States we will then do everything for changing her name. You just have to make sure that all of the paperwork matches her name on her passport.

Women in Colombia don't change their names when they get married, and if they do it takes a long time and it's a lot of hassle to do it. What we usually do is we change it here in the States and keep our maiden names in Colombia. We also travel with a copy of the marriage certificate to show the name in our passport and Colombian ID differs from the names we have on our US IDs.

To change their names in the US all they have to do is start using the husband's name as soon as they get married. That means getting a SS #, filing for AOS, Drivers License, bank accounts, etc.
