Hello,

i finaly arived in US on marth 23, but my trip was wery bad. It took me two days.

I had my flight from Belgrade to Frankfurt on marth 22 at noon. I arived in Frankfurt at 2:00PM. My next flight to San Francisco soposed to be in 4:25h bat tha plain was broken and the flight is canseled unthil the next day at 9:00AM. People from United Airlines told as that we all have free reservations at the Serathon hotel in Frankfurt and those who need tranzit visa for Germany should wait for a while and they will give as a one day visa. After couple hours lady from United Airlines told as that she can't help as and these no visa for as. I was with more five people from Serbia and we are all Serbian Citizens and nobody get the visa. I was askin around and I heard that they should give as are visas and that United Airlines are responsible for that. But no, ewerybody else was in Sheraton and we was left at the airport. They didn't help as at all and also they ####### wery rude to as.

We spend the night at the airport chers and in the morning we hope we will have flight at the 9:00AM, but it was in 11:00AM. It was wery hard and humiliated experinece. We wait for more then 18 hours.

When I finaly arived to US, my fiance call the United Airlines and they agree to give as a 130$ and we took that as an a insult. Whe tell them that whe deserve more than that and they told as to whrite them a letter with are request and they will response in a 30 days.

Now I don't know what should I whrite?

What cind a request was reasonable to them and to as?

Dhoes anybody ever have this cind of experience?

Is they any worth to do this?

I apologize becouse my bad english and I hope sombady will answer to me!

Thank you

United might have tried to get you transit visas, but if none were forthcoming from the German governement there is simply nothing United could do in that regard.

If you do not write and complain you will receive nothing. If you write and complain you have increased your chances of receiving some compensation. I would write as there is no downside.

YMMV

It is really terrible to know that a Serbian citizen cannot get a one day visa to the EU while transiting to the US. I am really sorry this happened to you, but unfortunately it was not a problem of United. It is the German Govt who didnt want to give you one and you should blame that on people who get visas and then disappear around Europe, taking away the chances of honest citizens to get Visas for the EU. I am really sorry, it must have been really annoying :(

Actually, crs, there was something they neglected to do--inform the prospective passenger that they could need a transit visa, check before booking.

Especially at the prices United charges compared to other US carriers.

(as I have had atrocious experiences with United on US-Canada flights)

Definitely write a complaint, sitting silent does nothing.

I used to work for an airline a while ago. Do some online searching, maybe on networking sites like linkedin, and find a VP of marketing. Send the letter to that person. I worked with a VP like that, and he'd get furious if he'd get complaint letters from passengers. He'd go out of his way to please them, with $$$ credits, letters of apology, sometimes even a small gift sent to them. Writing to general customer service wont get you that kind of response.

That's what you get for travelling with United I'm afraid - they really are absolutely fuckin useless. The 3 times that I've used them, they've lost my luggage on each occasion - tossers.

With regard to complaining, yes definitely write. And make sure your letter goes straight to the head honcho too. I had a nightmare experience with Southwest airlines in Detroit airport last time out. I won't go in to details here, but suffice to say that it involved sleeping in the departure lounge overnight. I wrote to Gary Kelly, the chairman and CEO of Southwest, to complain in the strongest possile terms. To cut a long story short, I received a written apology and a FULL refund.

Good luck.

I also had some horrible experience with United last year when I flew back home to see my family. They lost my luggage, and I had to take out $25 out of my own pocket to take a ferry back home myself from the airport where the plane was stuck at. I didn't lose much money at all so I didn't write a complain or anything---I was happy enough to finally get to reunite with my family again. I have to say though, is that I will NEVER fly with them again. The thing is that, when there are problems, they don't even try to take care of their customers, or they would make promises, make you wait for 6 hours, and then tell you there's nothing they can do.

I definitely agree with some of the posters here..write a letter of complain to someone that has a very high position in that airline complany. I don't know about airline companies, but working in the retails industries, my boss always makes sure he can do whatever it takes to make his customers happy.

I totally understand how you feel...It never hurts to try and I hope you will get something out of it!

Be happy you got $130.00. Many people usually don't get anything when the weather is involved and planes are cancelled. It is probably the equal amount to one night hotel cost for Frankfurt. In life, you should pick and choose your battles. Is this one situation where you want to expend more effort?

You should have checked before you ever left if you needed a transit visa.

Whatever airline that carried you from Belgrade to Frankfurt shold have told you (it wasnt United).

United aint responsible for nothing, except for having broken airliners.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.
