Experian and FreeCreditReport.com

When I applied for the loan on my house my banker pointed out something that wasn't right on my credit report from Experian. I went to Experian's web site to dispute the entry. Some how I ended up with a FreeCreditReport.com account! I remember that Experian wanted a CC to verify my ID and they used it to sign me up! When I caught the charge on my CC I called FreeCreditReport.com to cancel. I was obviously talking to a call center in India. I explained how I got signed up and asked them to cancel the membership. She proceeded to try and talk me into joining "Triple Advantage"!!! I repeated several times that I didn't want it, to cancel the membership I had and to stop charging me. It was as if I was talking to a brick wall. She kept saying that if I had an error on my report that they could fix it for me. I finally had to get nasty with her to get her to stop trying to sell me stuff.

The fact that I never went to FreeCreditReport.com and that Experian pretty much scammed me really pizzes me off. They are obviously in bed with each other. Watch yourselves people!

That in the phone industry is known as a cram.

I recommend taking screenshots of every screen while online when dealing with any credit agency.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Freecreditreport.com is an experian site.

https://www.annualcreditreport.com/ is the goverment regulated free credit report site. But you can only request a free report once a year.

And under certain circumstances you are required to request the reports by mail.

I was a victim of that. free credit report, privacy matters, yoursavingsclub.. all are out to scam. My husband called Experian, only to be forwarded to these scammers!

They charge a dollar every month so little you would think it doesn't matter but when I saw this pending in my account, I immediately reported them to the Bureau of Commerce, went to BOA to file a fraud adjustment, changed my credit card account #. they try to do this to unsuspecting millions of people.

My husband trusted the BOA agent who gave the phone number for experian, and he paid a fee for the credit report using my CC (which is supposedly free).

Watch out for these guys!

You're supposed to be able to go to any of the three majors to correct a problem, FREE.

I know because I did so before on two of them.... I had a mortgage that I had paid off years ago (2001) and the bank that held it was merged with 5th/3rd Bank recently.

They reported the mortgage delinquent (fcuking idiots) over 90 days.

I was able to dispute in both cases free, but don't remember having to give any CC info to do so........I think ssn and then answer some security questions they had on file.

Since Experian was the only one I have tried to dispute then I can't say what the other two were like. Did you dispute an Experian report?

Can't remember...things may have changed on the website though. I would have been very suspicious if they prompted me for a CC to verify anything.

I was leary about the SSN also.

I think since our financial lives depend on our credit reports we should have free access to them at any time. Not just once a year. This whole thing smacks of a scam to me.
