WASHINGTON--When the Democratic Party of Illinois meet next week to finish filling out the delegate slate, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) will pick up three more superdelegates, according to Steve Brown, a spokesman for state party chair Michael Madigan, who is also the speaker of the Illinois House.

Today, a Texas superdelegate backed Barack Obama, citing his record of standing up for working families and opposing trade deals that fail to protect American workers. The endorsement by Texas DNC Member John Patrick, who is also a 31 year member of the United Steelworkers (USW) as well as a Vice President of the Texas AFL/CIO, brings the total number of superdelegates to endorse Barack Obama to 249. Senator Obama is 283 delegates away from securing the Democratic nomination.

Mind you, supers are swing voters!

Their mission is to pick a Democratic nominee who will recapture 1600 pennsylvania Ave. for the Democratic party.

Even, Chairman Howard "the screamer' Dean has reiterated that point not too long ago.

So, before the question "who can really win the general" is settled presumably by June 3, based on the latest voting trends, supers may switch from one side to the other. By the same token, they can readily switch back or switch to the side that ultimately emerges as the most likely winner of the general election.

Hasn't happened yet and not likely to. People should remember that Hillary launched her presidential campaign with 96 super delegates already pledging their support. It gave her campaign such a huge boost that it made it almost unsurmountable for any candidate to take her lead away from her....and yet Obama did it in spite of the early disparity between the two in super delegate counts. When Hillary looks back after she finally concedes to Obama, she'll have to figure out how her campaign managed to become undone by an otherwise 'unknown'. It was like a big slap on Bill's face...his legacy undermined by some knew kid on the block. Oh my.
