I have heard that it is totally fine to throw them in the machine 2 at a time. I've also heard they are fine to go in the dryer as long as they have something in there to help fluff them- I will go to Linens and Things to get some dryer balls.

Anyone who does this- any tips to share?

Back home I only had one bed to worry about so it was easy and cheap enough to buy new ones when I needed them.

dryer balls??????????????????????

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

When mahal ko arrived here in Jan, she wanted to wash all the pillows. I said it was fine, as I had not done that since I had bought them years ago. She did it and then put them into the dryer......

again, and again, and again, and again......

After several cycles through the dryer, she finally took them out and left them in the bathroom to dry. It took over a week. We still have the pillows, but in the meantime (while all this was happening) we had bought new ones.

No offense to others, but if it takes all this to wash and dry them, I think I'd rather spend the money to buy new ones (only $10 - $15).

Haha- my mom had them. I didn't know what they were at first, I thought they were dog toys that somehow ended up in the dryer.

Sounds like quite a hassle.

Thanks- I will definitely prefer to just get new ones.

Hmm, I would think it depends on what kind of pillows you have. I have washed mine...2 at a time and dried them (without dryer balls lol) and they come out great. It only took one dry cycle and they were dry, fluffy and smelled wonderful. Perhaps the previous poster had non washable pillows. Check your label. Some pillows can cost upwards of 50-75 bucks too btw.

Stacey, you can use clean tennis balls in the dryer too if you can't get those dryer balls.

Before my wife got here I had a bed with very short legs and my chihuahua could jump up on the bed. And he peed on the pillows. (yuck) I washed them in the washer just fine and they dried out in the dryer just fine too.

But we get new pillows every couple of years, the old ones go flat after a while.

http://www.ehso.com/ehshome/dustmites.php

The University of Manchester performed a 2005 medical study of pillows that found up to 16 species of fungi in a single pillow. They tested feather and synthetic pillows in a range of ages, finding thousands of spores of fungus per gram of pillow ; more than is found on an average used toothbrush.

(Ten percent of the weight of a two year old pillow can be composed of dead mites and their droppings.)
