Israel marked Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Israelis observed their annual two-minute silence Thursday in honor of the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis during World War II.

As in every year, Holocaust Remembrance Day was marked with solemn gatherings at Yad Vashem and other Holocaust memorial sites. Israeli radio and television stations broadcast interviews with survivors, documentaries on the Nazi genocide, and films with Holocaust themes. Restaurants and other entertainment venues closed as a sign of respect.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert noted that while Israel, which celebrates its 60th Independence Day next week, does not owe its founding to the horrors of the Holocaust, it should recognize the national contributions made by the survivors.

"Today the 60-year-old State of Israel promises the millions of Jews who disappeared into the eternal silence that we will forever uphold the memory of the events of the Holocaust," Olmert said in a speech.

"The rebirth of the state, its blossoming and its prosperity, and the Holocaust survivors living lives of dignity here -- these are the best way to remember and move forward."

NATURALIZATION

28th july 2007 - N-400 mailed to VSC

(exactly on the 90th day mark...applications NOT returned although some scared me into thinking they could have!)

30th july 2007 - N-400 delivered to VSC

11th august 2007 - Delivery Confirmation receipt received

17th september 2007 - Money Order (FINALLY!) cashed

9th november 2007 - NOA! (notification period given 180 days)

21th november 2007 - Biometrics appointment letter

18th december 2007 - Biometrics appointment in Baltimore, MD completed

29th march 2008 - FINALLY received letter with interview date!

8th may 2008 H 8:40 AM - Interview in Baltimore-APPROVED!

8th may 2008 H 3:00 pm (yes same day, crazy!) Oath Ceremony in Baltimore

24th may 2008 - US Passport application mailed off

6th june 2008 - US Passport received in the mail!!!

I wish I had known this. I would joined in.

We went to the Holocaust museum in D.C. last year. Single most powerful thing I've ever experienced in my life.

I didn't know there was a Holocaust Remembrance Day. Why don't we have it everywhere?

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card
