Hi everyone,

Could you please help me! i am applying for the k3 visa for my spouse in pakistan. We are first cousins. My question is that when the interviewer in islamabad ask how we both met, will it be a problem when he tells them that we are cousins? but the marriage isnt fake at all. We have been together for 5 years now and have all emails, phone cards and all prooof that its a genuine relationship. Please help

That you are first cousins is not a reason for denial but you may face more scrutiny of bona fides as a result. The best you can do is have plenty of evidence and be prepared.

Don't know how it will affect you but 25 states in the US don't allow first cousins marrying!

Don't know what happens after you are already married and live in one of them.

First cousin marriage is allowed in these states under the following circumstances:

Arizona- if both are 65 or older, or one is unable to reproduce.

Illinois- if both are 50 or older, or one is unable to reproduce.

Indiana- if both are at least 65.

Maine- if couple obtains a physician's certificate of genetic counseling.

Utah- if both are 65 or older, or if both are 55 or older and one is unable to reproduce.

Wisconsin- if the woman is 55 or older, or one is unable to reproduce.

*North Carolina- First cousin marriage is legal. Double cousin marriage is prohibited

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

well i spoke to a laywer about this and she said that if the marriage is legal in the country in which you marry, then U.s can not say anything b/c i didnt get married in the us.

Your lawyer is correct. It is beyond me why people post "I don't know" answers. What's the point?
