My fiance came to US on a K1 visa. After 2 weeks we applied for his SSN and he just received it. WE ARE NOT MARRIED YET. On his SSN it says something like ONLY AUTHORIZED TO WORK WITH DHS PERMISSION. what does that mean?

I'm confused about all this whole process. IS MY FIANCE ALLOWED TO WORK WITH HIS SSN OR HE NEEDS TO WAIT FOR HIS WORK PERMIT. (I-765 Application for Employment Authorization) ????

It means that the cardholder can work but they must provide evidence of work authorization... This "restriction" is not removed from the SS card until they have been granted permanent residency status (greencard)

YMMV

Auth with DHS permission is there to tell any employer to require EAD or Green-card before employing.

SSN is not work authorization
