My first US credit card

we opened a bank account recently in BA, one joint checking account and my own savings account. our account officer was really great, she helped me apply for a credit card as well....yesterday, i got my secured credit card in the mail, yay! the credit limit isn't as much as the one i have in my home country, but its a start. my only regret is it didn't come a few days earlier, i could've charged all my cash purchases in it and started earning my credit rating points...

As evil as banks and the credit companies are.. we all unfortunately need a credit rating here just to be able to survive for most things. Good luck with the card, try to avoid the credit trap if you can!

I got my card within 3 months being here.... with a very huge limit and a unsecured one... Which i am very ahppy about and tis interest free for 9 months

thanks for the warning guys, don't worry, i'm used to these cards, i had several back home and never went over the limit, plus i always paid in full when due...i go by what my banker friend once said, don't let the bank make money out of you, do the opposite instead

We always pay all our credit cards in full every month.

very good practice. that's what i do too. it actually works in your favor, as the bank advances payments and you dont pay any interest for using their facility. goes well on your credit rating too!

if i could buy anything in cash i would. sadly, making big purchases e.g. house, car, etc. you need to have a credit history. hence, the credit card is a necessary evil that one has to live with, especially here in America. oh well....

if i could buy everything in cash i would. sadly, making big purchases e.g. house, car, etc. i would need to have a credit history. hence, the credit card is a necessary evil that i have to live with, especially here in America. oh well....
