Happy Hump Day to all!

Today is my last day as a W-2 employee! I will still be doing contract work for the same company from home and will only have to come in when I need to send something out. Which is good because I have a 30 min drive each way and the prices of gas being $ 3.81 it will be good.

Congrats again Kelly and can't wait to see pics of Zaid!

Yeah Jess the time is nearing.

Hope everyone has a great day and Jackie enjoy your day off!

That sucks - do you ever see yourself going back into the academia as a professor - that would be a nice continuation of what you like but I might be wrong about teaching.

You are so right. The recent economy slow down makes such a huge difference in what is available out there on the job market. Well, I hope that with time you will find something that would be more in your field...

Honestly? No. I actually see this as being my last couple of years to work. I had PhD acceptance and then turned it down. teaching is a nearly impossible profession to get into at the University level in a good year... and the average wait time is 6-10 years to get a position while constantly applying. Once we pay off my student loans, I'm out of the workforce (and we'll probably be out of the country too.)

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

One good thing about transferring internally is job longevity. When asked how long you've been at the company you can use the starting date at the company instead of the starting date at the new dept. I was lucky enough to "bridge" my service...it was a stipulation of mine before agreeing to return, so now I have 12 years longevity in my company which not only looks good with various other life-applications (credit, etc.) but also gives me more benefits such as longer vacation time, more % vested in retirement, etc. If you're with a good company it definitely benefits you to tranfsfer within instead of looking outside.

12 years - nice going Bridget. But seriously, you are bringing up a very significant aspect and I totally agree. I love the place where I work and see myself sticking around for a while. I haven't been here that long (less then 2 yrs) but the fact that my name came up when they were looking to fill in the new position gives me a huge bust of confidence that there is an actual possibility to grow within this company. I am looking forward to establishing myself within the firm for long run...Hope the universe will cooperate LOL

not sure if everyone else knows about this site but with the ever rising gas prices I've been going to www.gassbuddy.com to see where the cheapest is in my area. Currently it's 3.46/gallon. Truthfully that doesn't bother me so much since it's still under $35 to fill my Matrix but when that home heating oil bill gets left in my mailbox I just wanna hurl! :P

I so want to have a Matrix!!!! These cars are so cute...How you like it so far? It looks like they are pretty efficient with gas.

nessa has the pontiac vibe, it's a pretty neat little car. gets about 30 mpg. i just put $100 of fuel into it yesterday though.

10 gallons in the tank, 10 into 2 5 gallon cans, and a 5 gallon can of diesel.

gas is $3.50 here and rising.

I *love* it!!!! It drives so precisely, is small enough to fit into compact car spaces and like I said it's cheap to fill...last fill was about $33 and that was when the red empty light was a blarin'. lol. I'm not a car person so I can't tell you how many gallons that was but I can tell you that $33 lasts me about a week and a half and that's with carting two kids to different softball practices/games each night AND commuting about 15 miles back and forth into Boston M-Thurs. :)

I don't know if they make a bigger Matrix but I hope they do at some point or something similar since if and when we have a baby I'll need a bigger car. :(

I just got home from the Doctor...it figures....the doctor tried 4 times to get this stent out and it was so encrusted with stones ( again ) that I have to have it surgically removed Friday. I was warned I will get sick after this procedure . Like, duh! No kidding, as I reacll the last time when I ended up on my porch screaming for help. Then, he is going to put yet another one in till Monday, and I will go into his office then and have that one removed. Nothing makes sense. It's pretty bad when you go into the OR and know the surgical team on a first name basis, the names of their kids and where they went on their vacations!

I give up.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Oh, sucks! But you DO get it out, right? Won't that help, in the long run, your general feelings?
