Dorothy... how's the new job position treating you? :star:

Hey there Noura - thanks for remembering! So far I am still doing my old job - it seems that when you make internal moves it takes much longer. I signed the acceptance letter March 8 and now almost 2 months later I am stuck. They need to replace me and we are almost done with the interviewing process so I am hoping that it will happen soon. My new boss and I were hoping for May 1 - but I doubt it - it's not happening tomorrow but gives me something to look forward to.

D.

Bridget, just out of curiosity, did the representative just tell you that your marriage is not recognized in the states or was there supporting evidence that backed up the representative's statement?

morning and congrats to kelly!!!

at work with intense heartburn today. doctors have no clue what's wrong with me.

we went to social security yesterday afternoon so I could change my name and they wouldn't accept our marriage certificate and the translation. The woman said my marriage is not recognized in the US until I register it with my town. That's a first for me so I'm waiting till town hall opens to see what's up with that. Never thought a simple name change would be so complicated.

She didn't have any documentation to back it up at all.

Curious..............................has everyone's husband had to submit proof to their prospective employer that they graduated high school? A lot of jobs that he's looking at only require a high school diploma but I'm wondering how much they really stick by asking for proof. Trying to get out of paying the $$$ to get everything certified and translated.

Before my one year hiatus at another company I had transferred internally to the job I'm at now. What a royal PIA!!!!! Had to delay starting so that I could finish things up AND still fielded questions a year after I had changed jobs! Now everything's cool but it does take a loooong time to adjust internally especially if you're a valuable employee!

Thanks Julianna! What field are you working in, if you don't mind me asking? Is it related to your adventures in archaeological excavation?

Pfft, that would be nice. No, I'm still working my student in-school job at a hotel. With the slow in the economy, archaeological and anth jobs have gone under.

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

Glad to know that things worked out in the end, Bridget. And thanks for the feedback - now I don't feel that bad. Can't wait to get started and the more time I have before the transfer the more I am analyzing everything - not a fun thing for my brain.

But I am in good spirits since all of the people in my old department are so cool - it's so refreshing to work with good people - makes the day so much easier...

One good thing about transferring internally is job longevity. When asked how long you've been at the company you can use the starting date at the company instead of the starting date at the new dept. I was lucky enough to "bridge" my service...it was a stipulation of mine before agreeing to return, so now I have 12 years longevity in my company which not only looks good with various other life-applications (credit, etc.) but also gives me more benefits such as longer vacation time, more % vested in retirement, etc. If you're with a good company it definitely benefits you to tranfsfer within instead of looking outside.

That sucks - do you ever see yourself going back into the academia as a professor - that would be a nice continuation of what you like but I might be wrong about teaching.

You are so right. The recent economy slow down makes such a huge difference in what is available out there on the job market. Well, I hope that with time you will find something that would be more in your field...
