Hi Alex ... yea I know, it's almost unreal. I feel so lucky to have this approval now, and luck is the keyword here ...

Melannie, I understand what you're saying ...

I got this remark at work a while ago "how is it possible to miss someone so bad that you're almost making yourself sick, well there are men here too you know, or why don't you get a substitute while you're here?" Really sensitive ... while I wasn't really complaining about anything at all, because I don't share my personal life with most of my co-workers. I was mad, but I didn't bother getting into a discussion ...

wow that sucks... you just have to remember that these people have no idea what this is like, and have probably never been in love like we all are either :)

How are you doing today?

Still on vocation or back to work ?

Hi Alex! Thanks I am well. How are you? Yes I am still on vacation, I am back to work in a week. I have just talked to my friend who got back from holidays in Croatia. I am going to hang out with her and other friend at the weekend. ^_^

Great topic today. I think we all have heard things like this. I think for some couples going through this, this is a valid question. "So how do you know she's not running around up there", "That's a long time you have to wait, a lot of things can happen between now and then", "Why in the hell are you going through all of this when you can have your pick right here?"

To be honest, I don't mind when people pose some of these questions. I understand their point of view. Now, I don't think it's cool for someone to be suggesting that you get something on the side to hold you over. That's nothing but an a$$hole with no regard for other people's feelings right there.

But, at the same time, I cant blame most people who pose these questions in a rational manor, either. A lot of people have been hurt before. Cheated on, had their hearts broken.....etc. They have no sense of trust anymore. To them, a situation like we are in, where our fiancees are thousands of miles away, is nothing but a joke and a heartache waiting to happen.

I'm sure that a percentage of couples going through this don't have as strong a relationship as they may think. For that, I think this whole drawn-out process is a good thing. It gives plenty of time for a couple to see if they have what it takes. To see if they really have true love and commitment. To see if their relationship can really withstand this test.

I will bet you that the divorce rate for couples who have gone through this is MUCH lower than that of naturalized citizens. It's not possible for us to be irrational. It's not possible for us to make hasty decisions. Before it's all said and done, we all will have somewhere close to a year or more without the person we love......to think if he/she is REALLY the one for us. Through this process, you get to see what the other person is TRULY like. Are they someone who can regognize what they have and be willing to wait for it.....or do they give up and settle for someone who is actually avaiable for them.

The highs are rarely all that high for us...because our fiancees are not here to share it with us. The lows are very very low for us.....because of the very same reason. THIS is when you see what kind of relationship you have.

I tell Chantal all the time that this is the BIGGEST test that we will ever be given. If we can make it through this, then we can make it through anything.

Anyway.....I was glad to see this topic brought up today. Because, as much as we complain about this whole process......there are some great points to it as well.

We know exactly what we have, and exactly what we are getting.

Many couples never know what they are getting until it's too late.

Happy Thursday everyone. One day closer to having the love of our lives in our arms.

Ryan I've been reading this site a bit more lately due to my fiancee linking me to topics relating to our situation and I'd just like to thank you for being so rational and supportive of people on the site. We're all in this together, and besides our signifigant others, this is one of the main places we all look to for support. Your contribution is not overlooked!

Hi Ryan!

Yes it's a great topic. I have heard that kind of questions, or comments .I don't like hearing that much, I would like to hear good things about our relationship. Most of people think it's unbelievable that we can wait for a long time. I am looking forward to getting good news and spending my life with Jack. We both decided to go through this, in despite of difficulties we haven't changed our minds. Our relationship is based not only on love and attraction, but on good understanding as well , that is important to have for a good family. - Natalia

The best one I have had was "will he wait for you?"

I have found the only people that understand are - my boy, our parents and my friend that is going though the process too. And you guys!

I firmly believe too that it's not a bad start to a whole lifetime together, here is one reason why. It makes you communicate! And it's a test, if you get though this you'll make it though anything!!

Ryan, that was a wonderful response :) It is important to keep everything in perspective through the wait, and I think personally, Bo and I have learned how to communicate so well through the distance, that it will keep our relationship strong for a long time.

I've been lucky that most of my very close friends have been understanding. I do have some friends that I go "umm, you think you can get married and you never lived together?" or "Kinda fast to get married to someone you don't know eh?"

Like I said, as long as the IMPORTANT people in your life understand, other people's opinions and preconceived notions do not matter - you don't need negative people like that in your life anyway :)

Hope everyone is well today!! Still can't wait to see y'all get approved :D:D

We emailed NVC yesterday to see when our petition arrived and when it will leave for Montreal..hopefully we will hear back from them in a day or two :)
