I know what the idea is, I just find it pretty hard to believe that there are a lot of people making all that effort to do something negative. Of course, they may be, but as I said, that's so high school it belies belief.

Gary's fooling himself if he thinks the newly registered Democrats are really Republicans. I can't find the numbers, but nearly a quarter million Pennsilvanians registered to vote .....there were newly registered Republicans also, but a much smaller percentage....perhaps they didn't get the memo. :P

To Gary: Say Buh-bye to the White House, brother! The Democrats will also take over in the Senate.

Uh huh, say goodbye to your Dilbert cel Steven. Every day that goes by looks better for the reps. As far as the congress goes here is how I see it. Right now congress has an approval numbers in the teens. Apparently the people like the dem congress even less that the president. Don't count on anything.

How many of them are up for re-election this year?

In the house all of them. In the senate a third of them.

InTrade.com, the only betting site currently offering odds on control of the House, puts the likelihood of the Democrats retaining control at about 89% as of early February 2008.

Those races haven't started yet. Wait until later in the summer.

Oh good grief, more elections? Will it never end?

Heh, this is just the primary where we choose who is running. The first tuesday in November is the real election.

Confused? Well, yes I am confused that this highly developed country has such a ridiculous method of choosing a president - one that is guaranteed to produce the least worst candidates rather than strong ones. I am less surprised at the election of Bush and Regan than I was now, of course  I am also disappointed by the level of political debate, not only by the candidates, but by the commentators. I am extremely disappointed in the stupid games that are played and the interest that is paid to gossip and the energy that is spent derailing opposition candidates.

I am wondering if the politicians enjoy these long, drawn out, messy and non political elections because that removes the focus of the people from the real problems that face the US and focus attention on name calling, labels and empty headed rhetoric.

Am I there yet?

Rubbish, they aren't tested against anything except presentibility, the tests for which are constantly being revised. The only thing that the successful candidate is going to have is a certain affability/likableness which is hardly the most pressing prerequisite for good government.

Which makes the process meaningless in terms of assessing the suitability of the candidate to be a president if it is a political post. If the president is essentially a figure head (which I actually believe to be the case for the most part) there is really no need for this long and expensive process. A simple popularity contest (names on the ballot, most votes wins) type contest is all that is required. I know you believe that people need to 'get to know' the candidates, so put them on the telly and make them "sing and dance" for their votes like on American Idol.

WISH-ful Thinking in Indianapolis; Operational Pause Officially Lifted

RUSH: So they're implying, ladies and gentlemen, that Operation Chaos, the operational pause was due to their report. I can understand. I can understand a local television station wanting to think they're a factor in a major nationwide operation, and they're doing a hard-hitting investigation out there, that's what local TV news is known for. I don't want to deflate them. I don't want to ruin their day out there in the newsroom at WISH-TV, but the operational pause in Operation Chaos was due strictly to the Obama press conference yesterday while we awaited what I knew was going to happen, media reaction, because we had to determine what course of action we would order next given the media reaction to Obama yesterday. And I can just tell you, the operational pause is now lifted. Operation Chaos is back at full speed, and we have no change in direction, orders from headquarters remain exactly what they are: You are to go out and sustain the Democrat primary season by virtue of voting for Hillary Clinton. Nothing has changed, ladies and gentlemen, nothing whatsoever.
