Gary, if you want a liberal, vote for a real liberal. Not some panderbear loser like McCain.
I would rather have a 75% conservative than a 100% liberal. Those are the choices I have.
ditto. first the whining about no uhc, then the whining about uhc. trying to make some people happy around here is like trying to find a virgin in congress.

McCain has not proposed anything that even remotely resembles UHC.

Your not going to get UHC from anyone, McCain or Obama. As long as the majority of people have health care it just isn't going to happen. The people will not allow it. Remember 1996? Same thing will happen again.

I'm aware that UHC is a long way away. But this plan is not going to move us any closer to it. It's just going to make it more expensive by adding more red tape to the mix. There isn't a solution that's going to work as long as we have to deal with this fragmented system. McCain proposes to further feed that system rather than to trim it down and make it work for the people rather than for the CEO's.

CBS NEWS/NEW YORK TIMES POLL

February 23-27, 2007

POLICY PRESCRIPTIONS AND THE ROLE OF GOVERNMENT

According to the public, there is a role for government when it comes to health care: Two-thirds say it is the responsibility of the federal government to guarantee that all Americans have health insurance. This sentiment is little changed from 2000 and even higher than it was ten years ago. Most say they still believe this even if it meant the cost of their own care would go up.

SHOULD GOVERNMENT GUARANTEE HEALTH INSURANCE FOR ALL?

Yes - 64%

No - 27%

WHICH WOULD BE BETTER…?

Government-run system, with universal coverage - 47%

Current private system, with many uninsured - 38%

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Well I guess he is wasting his time then. The status quo will prevail for the forseable future. But maybe we can take this as a starting point for a discussion (as a nation) and see what we can come up with. Unless of course you want an all or nothing situation, in that case it will be nothing.

UHC will not work in the US. It needs to be some sort of hybrid system.

Yeah, that's where I'm leaning.......I was going to post exactly the same thing!

Wait until it really comes down to it. Most people will not be willing to give up a system that works for the majority of people. Talk is easy when your answering questions over the phone.

I can live with a hybrid. Available and guaranteed basic coverage for everyone with private supplements for those that want / can afford it.

I hybrid public/private system along the lines of McCains ideas can work. The reality is that they must add a new tax to pay for this.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

The best you will get is the other way around. Leave the current system of employer based insurance alone and provide coverage for those that don't get it. Sort of like expanded medicade with a means test.

I think you're dreaming Gary. The countries on a path to cobble a "different" way to do Health Care, right or wrong, good or bad, that's the popular mindset.

Let's just hope that clear heads prevail on this issue, else we'll be paying for lots of, umm, "undocumented residents" that make minimum wage and soak the system for all it's worth.......The dems "dream base"....
