With regards to the RCMP, the times vary. In some locations, they can do the check within MINUTES, others take a few days or a bit longer. Usually the only time it takes an extended amount of time is when fingerprinting is required.

In Canada--the cream of the crop is the RCMP check, lol but the local police check is usually fine as well ( or the Commissionaires if ur in the Toronto area)

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Thanks, flames9. I'm the Montreal area. I'll check out the RCMP's website to see where's the nearest office. Depending on the answer I get from the Consulate, I'll be prepared if I need another report.

I recall a fellow VJ'er that at the time of the interview in MTl had an incorrect or outdated criminal check, so they made a mad dash to the closest RCMP office (and as I recall, wasnt to far) and they were able to get the check completed onthe spot and out the door with the paperwork

They got their interview and had to get the new police report in order to complete their file or they had to get it and their interview was rescheduled?

they were AT their interview--so mad a mad dash to the RCMP office and immediately was able to attain the RCMP cert. What i was getting at, was that particular RCMP office was able to hand out the certificate at the same visit.

Cool! I'll be making some phone calls to find one of their offices with quick delivery. Thanks!
