the problem is gm only lets the public see what they want. which of course is the greedy unions. they dont tell the public that the union starting in 1985 trying to save the company money. i got hired in 93....i didnt go in making $35/hr. i made $10/hr, in 90 days i got 80/20 medical coverage. it took 3 years before i got dental and 5 years before i got vision. it took 10 whole years before i was at top wage and benifits. top wage is not even $35 like they report. it is only like $27.00 plus COLA which ranged and of course 5%afternoon premium and 10%midnight. it never added up to the $35.00. i still am not at full vacation. that takes 20 years to get. so the union did its fair share to help the company out too but with all that savings they still got into trouble cuz they just put their savings into bigger pay checks for the CEO's saving nothing.

They are wasteful. i was walking thru this dept one day and low and behold a container probably 4 foot by 4 foot and maybe 4 foot deep full of computer screens all heading for the scrap yard. what a waste!!!! they paid to remodel this office for some power that be thousands of dollars and he decided he didnt like it there and wanted to go back to his old office.

they will totally go and paint and fix up a whole building making million dollar improvemeents and move some machines in for about 3 years and then up and move them to mexico. the american operations are paying for all this stuff and just giving it away to the foreign comptition. no wonder america cant stay competetive. we buy all the stuff and give it away.

im on the inside...i see whats going on really. GM is only reporting what they want. they arent not telling u what all the people in the middle are making...only what the little worker ants make so everyone comes down on them. we take the heat on everything. they dont tell the public its a give and take deal with the unions. its not just a give give give thing. i just get sick of the whole picture not being seen and people coming down on the middle class.

we have to listen every day to how we think we are better then everyone else. when delphi filed bankruptsy everyone wrote the letter to the editor saying how we deserved to loose everything we had cuz we were just lazy over paid bastards. this one woman had the nerve to even say we need to shut up and sell our toys and live like she does...she only makes $16/hr and has 2 houses, has always drivin a nice car and put her kids in private schools and had money even for a family vacation every year. geeeee nice lady...i have one house, a 12 year old car, i dont take a vacation every year and my daughter went to public school....so wheres these toys u want me to sell lady. if u had such a great life at $16/hr let me strip 40% of ur wages away and tell me how much u will have then!!! just cuz u make $16/hr doesnt mean the rest of the world has to. doesnt mean we should loose our asses cuz u chose to work some place else. again...if she really knew so much about GM and delphi instead of what the paper and news tells she might look differently at things.

anyway...im done saying anymore. just keep an open mind that all the facts about the unions and companies are not out there. its not that the unions were greedy and just taking taking taking from the company. the company would just take their savings and spend it else where.

they need to stop feeding the public that they need to bring down wages to a competative rate of the real workers but everyone. they just want everyone to see we are higher paid then honda, toyota workers but they dont tell how their powers that be are not what honda, toyota powers that be are. but thats ok.

DETROIT - General Motors Corp. struggled to a $3.3 billion first-quarter loss, due in part to a weak U.S. market, a strike at a major parts supplier and plummeting sales of sport utility vehicles and pickups.

SUVs are a bargain right now, people should buy more of them.

GM said the exact number of layoffs will be worked out with its unions. Workers will get unemployment benefits and supplemental pay that total 80 percent of their normal 40-hour gross pay, said GM spokesman Dan Flores.

cry me a freaking river ... learn to deal and move on like those who are less fortunate ...

and why was this negotiated? to keep jobs in the united states. u wont move jobs out if u have to pay people 80 percent of their wages just to sit at home doing nothing!!!

who's crying? the worker sitting at home making 80% or GM? im sure not complaining so where do u get off saying to deal with it and move on like those less fortunate? tell Gm to stop moving jobs out and they wont have to pay 80%!!! stop blaming the union for trying to keep jobs here by putting pressure on GM!!!

there u go...blaming the low man on the totum pole saying we are crying over getting 80%. were not the ones complaining over it....GM is!!! put blame where blame is due!!! if Gm were stupid enough to agree to this then dont blame the average worker for taking it. u would take it too if offered and if u didnt u would be stupid not too. i dont hear anyone here saying...oh please dont give me 80% of my wages if im layed off. i only deserve 50 like everyone else.

Actually you both are crying. One for paying the other for sitting at home.

Be interesting to know how many people might remain employeed if all those receiving "bonus unemployment" money were treated like the average unemployed worker in the US who receive a severance (maybe) and the normal unemployment? There is an incentive in receiving only unemployment $$ ... and that is to get a job quickly as typical unemployment benefits don't really pay the bills.

With an 80% payout ... where is the incentive to get a job vs. milking the cow?
