Hi,

I received a summons for jury service and I am not a US citizen (so I shaded the part that says I am not a USC).

There is a response form which is detachable, but I plan to keep the top portion (with the juror's badge) and mail off the entire form to the corresponding agency. My problem is to what address should I mail the form to? What is indicated on the form is the Superior Court of California and the address, phone numbers but no proper instruction if I have to mail it back to this Superior Court address. I am not sure if such notice can come from the head county office and if I should address it to them. No other return address is indicated here or on the envelope to which it was mailed in. Clearly, I don't know anything about it and need some information from you guys.

I tried calling the number indicated here but to each attempt, I was put on hold and then the line went dead. I will try again tomorrow, maybe at different office hours but I am hoping someone from VJ can enlighten me on what to do or at least explain to me the selection process for the jurors.

What agency is responsible for the pre-selection of jurors? How is it done?

I appreciate all the information you could possibly give me.

I think you should respond and tell them you are not a citizen. Don't just ignore it because I think they get testy about that.

I got a summons for jury service last year and I just ticked the 'not a US citizen' box. As it was for our local Court, I just took it down to them and gave it to the Clerk.

Thanks Nikita2Charles! I was able to get hold of a live agent (at long last) and gave me the address where to send the form back. It took me almost the whole day to get through a live agent.

Where did they tell you to send it? Was it different than the address on the form?

Yes, it was two totally different addresses. The address on the notice was the courthouse and the assembly room where the jurors must report for the one-day trial.

The agent told me random selection are done based on the DMV's drivers' license holders (also I read parts of it in our county's Supreme Court website). I remember I never checked or marked the box for jury service when I was applying for my driver's L. to avoid being called for jury service, so I was a bit surprised when I got this notice.

I would love to attend (or be excused from work) a trial and be a juror but I am not a USC, as of yet.

I prefer not to ignore such notices. They gave me the option to disqualify myself as a juror so why should I not respond back to correct whatever needs to be corrected or updated.

I was thinking of taking the notice with me to the local court too since it's just a 5 minute-drive from my job (out of curiosity). But I was thinking too that the notice might have come from the county's court office, which is totally a different address, and it turned out that that is where I should mail it back.
