I was told waaaayyy back in the day (circa 2000) that the delay for CR1 was because of the FBI security check that has to be processed on all Immigrant visas before they are granted.:huh::(

K1 visas are non-immigrant visas, and they do not go through the FBI security check until AOS, which is why there is another delay to get the greencard for AOS. I don't there is much complaint about this stage of delays because your wife/husband is no longer separated from you.

I know it's not much consolation...but perhaps it will help make the wait a little more bearable.

I don't think the security is checked much after the NVC stage. After NVC, there aren't any except for the ones that come once you get visa granted. So they should be done with security checks by now. Most other countries get interview about 6-8 weeks after case complete. At most they wait is 1month to hear their case was transferred to embassy. Its just the Kingston embassy and a few others that are so slow. I know they are busy and all but come on now. Waiting over 4 months just to get a date assigned? Thats like AP. You ususally only hear of this from people out of African and MENA countries. Something is up.

I got an email message back from the embassy about them doing something to accommodate us CR1 visa holders having to wait 4-5mos for an interview date...well they didn't really answer my question or told me anything i want to hear...this is an excerpt of what i wrote...

I would like to know why Immigrant visas, especially marriage visas

(CR-1/IR-1) are given less priority than non-immigrant visas, for

example K-1 visas.

Since non-immigrant visa do not have to be processed through NVC, the

non-immigrant visas are getting interview dates right away, once

documents are received at the embassy, while Immigrant visa holders

have to wait 4-5 months after all documents are received and reviewed

at NVC for an interview date. This leaves me to believe that the

non-immigrant visa are filling up most slots for interviews which is

leaving the immigrant visas less slots for interviews, which is

causing this 4-5 month wait for an interview date.

I know the embassy is doing their best to take care of all visas types

and I commend the embassy for their hard work and dedication. I would

just like to know is there anything possible that can be done to help

those pursuing Cr-1/Ir-1 visa to not have to wait 4-5 months for an

interview so we can finally be with our loved ones.

This is what they wrote back...

Good day:

Thank you for your e-mail. The information contained in your e-mail is however not accurate. While it is true that K1 fiance visas do not go through the processing at the National Visa Center, they do go through processing here at the Embassy in Kingston before they are scheduled for a visa interview. The process normally takes a few months so it is only on very rare occasions that K1 visas are given a higher priority than

IR1/CR1 visas. The Embassy

I guess they can't do anything about this wait since CR-1 visas have to go through NVC...Oh well...I tried... :bonk:

This is such a lie. We can tell just by the few cases here on VJ, that this is not what they are following. Obviously a person whose case was completely done at NVC back in March and April or even May should be getting a date faster than someone who wasnt done processing their paperwork at the embassy, yet they are getting dates much faster. I really do think its just that we are waiting at NVC and not waiting at the embassy. I think the slots get filled up faster by those waiting at the emabssy. Its ridiculous cause now the K3 visas dont really work. It takes forever and a day to get out of USCIS with those (if you ever do), so you still end up waiting forever.

I talked to DOS today and they told me they have no idea why KNG takes so long to schedule interviews and that I was still at NVC and blah blah blah. Its so frustrating when the system is so unorganized and NO ONE can give you a clear cut answer.

yeah you definitely have a point. I remember that it used to take a year and half to two years for the spousal visas. Then, it looked like they started speeding up the process...now they are slowing right back down.

How long did it take for Mrs. Scott to get her interview after NOA2? I know that she waited for what seemed like forever. I pray that you guys hear something soon. You should be able to get a refund on the difference between the old fees and new fees when they go past a certain timeframe. It is absolutely ridiculous. :(

Jawi,

I have not heard from you in ages. It took 7 months to receive the NOA2. After crying, praying, and writing three politicians- we got an interview. Our entire K-3 process was one year.

I called them today and they said they are still scheduling for August and to call back on the 18th....I probably won't get an interview for August since my case was just completed June 18...especially if there are people waiting since March...I really hope I do though... ...I tried to ask the NVC operator if they can let me know what completion date they are up to but she said they do not have that type of information...oh well...this part is so depressing...at least when getting the paper work together it kinda kept your mind busy but knowing you are done and just waiting for the date is torture...I am so ready to go to Jamaica...it will be exactly 5mos since I last saw my hubby when i go back down in Aug...can't wait...a must needed release of stress is in order... ...

Hello Everyone, I just called NVC since night and asked if our case was issued an interview date. The rep said no and that August has been all schedule - sorry for the news. So of course, he said to try again next month. Crushing news!! I was looking for a date in July, then Aug, now I just don't know. Anyone else was told this? Since above jgay80 called and they told her to call back on the 18th.

I've given up calling them. I think I call once a month. They tell me the same #######, that doesnt make sense. It sucks. Now I am gonna go to JA and come back with that pain in my heart from leaving my husband and spend anniversary alone and have no word from the embassy with regards to a date.

Marlita, I understand how you must be feeling right, so close, but still far enough apart. I hated to leave my husband last week when I returned from JA. I called him as I was boarding the plane and he said get out of line and come back. I was so tempted to do it, if the flight steward hadn't interject her self in my way, I would still be in JA today. When I married my husband I didn't realized this separtation would be so hard. We were counting on his work visa to come thru. The work visa happened, but because he is married to a USC, they (the company) didn't want to risk it.

I tell him every day, that if there was the possibility I could get a job in JA, I would move there, but I have too much invested here for right now.

The lonelist doesn't hit until you have been back home a couple of days, then it hurts. I also understand what you meant on the other thread by how much harder it is, because you live alone. Also now friends and family don't understand the pain you are feeling by this separation. I hope I can show as much class as you have shown in this time of waiting for someone else to make a decision on your future. Keep up your class act and go and be with your husband and enjoy it to the fullest. Go and make memories. Smile when noone knows what you are smiling about. Laugh out lound about your private jokes. Cry when it hurts, but don't stop loving him.

Roxie;

My girl ain't that the truth. To tell you the truth I initially was going to do CR/1, but after much research I knew I could not handle the separation. We talked about eloping many times, but said no we'll wait it out with the K-1. This process is a true test of faith, but I know many people who've gone through it and some taking as long a 2 and a half years.

They told my girlfriend that in June. I wasn't here to post it in the room. I think she called around the week of the 24th of June. She wanted an explanation and was told to call back in 2 weeks.
