The poor won't turn out? Give out their welfare checks that day, they'll have an id quicker than you can say tickety boo.

Seriously, free id, and it's too hard for them? I'm starting to see why some of them may be poor in he first place.

...oh and the minority thing that O said....how much more racist can one person be?

I'm totally shocked at this posting!

Why?

It's too truthful...I'm not used to the truth in these forums..

The bottom line is that 95% of the poor and uneducated are that way for a reason. They may not like the conditions in which they live but have no ambition to change their situation. The only way to get them to vote is if you brought the ballot to them at their home and filled everything out for them. The question you need to ask yourself is do you want these people choosing the leaders of our country? If they don't care enough to vote then that is their choice. I agree that we should have an easier way to vote. We are in the 21st century and with all the technology we have there should be options that allow us to vote by several different means. We can control our money through the internet, over the phone, or by mail and this is secure enough by use of your social security number and with a pin number so why can't we vote the same way? When someone registers to vote you could be assigned a pin number that is linked to your SSN. You could use the 2 numbers to vote.

Speaking of conspiracies, Gary, where's the proof that people without state ID's are committing voter fraud? There isn't any.

Anyone who votes knows that you have to go to specific polling place you are assigned to. Your name and address are on a list. The workers ask you for you name and address. If by chance someone else came to your polling place before you and said they were you, they would be caught. There is no other precautions needed to discourage people from voting as somebody other than themselves. Secondly, state ID's can be and have been made counterfeit. In other words, there is no full proof method...it's a matter of taking reasonable precautions.

Voter fraud is easy at least down in my neck of the woods. I live in area that has a mixture of illegal and legal residents w/ a smattering of USCs.

Filling out a voter registration card incorrectly and having someone sign it that does NOT read Spanish or English very well is easy to do as well. The name and address on the form are correct. Any information regarding citizenship and right to vote is not. On election day at the polling place the poll workers are Spanish speaking and they simply ask what the name of the voter, where the person lives and then that info is checked against the polling records.

The "voters" go into their booth and vote according to their prefilled-out booklet. As to whether the voters, themselves, filled it out or someone else filled it out I cannot say. I do know that in Mexico in the poor areas you vote for your "patron" or for your "patron's" candidates.

I was chatting in Spanish one time with the person behind me in line about the election and I asked if he was a US citizen. He replied no but that he was allowed to vote... I had not the heart to ask him if he was legal or illegal in the country.

Gaby&Talbert's idea has merit IMO.

Not really. If they can't figure out how to get a photo ID, the concept of choosing a candidate based on where they stand on the issues will be completely lost on them.

aww damn G, I missed the pre edit

It was a video about ACORN submitting 1800 made up voter registrations. I couldn't get the link to work. Basically it was a scam to submit a bunch of made up registrations and then send people out to vote under those registrations. Several people went to jail over it.

I don't understand how these people get by without a photo ID.... This is Indiana, where public transportation is a fantasy. How do they get around? How do they cash checks? How do they do anything, really?

If you don't have a driver's license, it is a good idea to have some other sort of photo identification, such as a state identification card. There are just too many occasions in daily life that you are required to provide photographic proof of your identity.

Not the least of these is when you vote. Indiana now requires all voters (with a few exceptions) to provide an acceptable form of photo identification at the polling place before being able to cast your ballot.

The Indiana identification card resembles a driver license, but has a non-driver label at the top. All ages are eligible to receive a state ID. The cards cost $13 and are valid for six years. If you are at least 65 years old or disabled, the cost is $10. If you can't afford to pay for a state ID card, you may be issued one for free if the proper documentation is presented.

How to Apply

To apply for a state ID card, just go to any license agency. Make sure to bring along proof of both your identity and your date of birth from the state's acceptable documentation list. You'll need to provide one document each from the primary, secondary, and proof of residency groups. Or, you can show two documents from the primary group and one from the proof of residency group.

Only original documents or certified copies will be allowed. If your Social Security number is not already on the Bureau of Motor Vehicles' internal register, you will need to provide proof of that, too, from the acceptable documentation list.

All documents must be in English, and in your name. (English translation is also acceptable.) A foreign driver's license is not an approved form of identification.

If you use documents from the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration/Naturalization Service, or Citizenship and Immigration Service, they will need to be approved by the Central Verification Process before a state ID card will be issued.

You may receive a temporary ID document until that verification process has been completed. The fees for this are the same as listed above; if your identification documents are approved, your state ID card will be mailed to you.

If your identification isn't approved, you will receive a letter explaining the steps to appeal that decision; however, you will not be eligible to apply for a refund.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.
