Yodrak the Great is gone. Connie, when you stay away from VJ, you miss all the action.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

How can "she" has a wife?

Robert,

Exactly.

Not everyone outside of Thailand knows Thai law - say the words 'wedding' or 'marriage' and they will expect that you are married without even realizing to ask about registration at the amphur.

Even many Thai people think this way. When she was my girlfriend, I used to think that my wife had previously been married - she told me that she had been. She twice applied for B2 visas (and was twice approved) indicating on the DS-156 that she was divorced. Then when it was time for me to submit my I-129f petition I told her we needed her divorce certificate, and she replied 'what divorce certificate - I don't have one'. Only then did we sort out that although she'd had a wedding ceremony the 'marriage' had never been registered. No problem for the petition, but we did have to explain to the consulate why, on her third visa application, for the K1, she was single (never married) when on the first two applications she was divorced.

Fortunately, the consular officer accepted the explanation with the comment 'I understand, it's common practice' and we did not have to get a sworn statement to that effect. Also, I believe it helped that her name was written on her passport as 'Miss' - that's when I learned that once married a Thai woman is a 'Mrs.' forever after, even when divorced.
