K-3 is not much faster, Compare timelines.

CR-1 is an IMMIGRANT visa so has the big benifit of getting green-card upon arrival to the USA, CR-1 can immediately seek employment, get SSN, and apply for a driver's license.

K-3 is NON-IMMIGRANT, and has to adjust status ($1010), cannot WORK, get SSN, or even Get a Driver's license until they either have EAD or green-card from AOS. EAD takes no days or more to get.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

K-3 is not much faster, Compare timelines.

Technically, JImmy and Angela and Yu and Dan were both right.

K3 was created so that spouses of US citizens do not have to wait months or even years to be reunited with their loved ones. It is similar to K1 where, after USCIS processing, it basically almost skips NVC and goes straight to the embassy.

However, because of how screwed up everything is at the USCIS level, the K3 processing is not that much faster than a CR1. In some cases like mine, Our K3 application was "administatively closed" and ended up holding everything up.

In my opinion, filing for K3 is a crapshoot nowadays. It may help you speed things up and it may hold you back. If I knew what I know now, I would not file K3.

You're better of going the CR1 route and save yourself a lot of money and headaches down the road. Remember, like Yu and Dan said, CR1 visas have a lot more benefits than K3 visas.

difference of cr1 and k3 route?

can someone give me the benefits of cr1?

and the benefit of k3?

any help is highly appreciated thanks :star:

Have you filed for K3 lostGurl18?

If you have not filed for I-129F yet, you're waaay too late for the K3 option. You're almost at the finish line, just let the CR1 ran its course.

Here are some VJ members' discussion about k-3...along wiht the link....

"I'm a K3 and STRONGLY recommend filing for a K1 instead, even if you are married already. The K3 is a nightmare! Don't get me started. I want to barf everytime I see a posting where the K1 has a SS number already! If you're considering the K3 route, save yourself a headache and follow the K1 route instead.

That's my two cents worth...so if they get rid of it....good riddence!"

For me, I know the CR1 is hands down the best of the bunch, but all I cared about was getting my wife here quick. My attitude was the $1,000 was worth it for her to be here a month quicker. (It also let her know she was valued too. jeje)

Anyway, after I made the K3 decision I just quit reading. I was burnt out on reading about visas and doing paperwork. Now my question is: What are the SS# hassles and what are the other difficulties? Are there any surprises that I should know about? Is the AOS process really that bad?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~

I can 100% see how people wish they went K1. I know occasionally that bothered me seeing K1's get approved faster than K3's.

"**K-3 is issued an I-94 with an expiration nearly 2 years after entry, so you have legal presence for that long. You file for the EAD through the USCIS service that has jurisdiction over where you will live in the USA using code (a )(9 ) this will get you an EAD valid as long as the I-94 card (Up to 2 years)

You then file for AOS just before your 2nd wedding anniversary, this should result in a 10 year un-conditional green card.

EAD costs $340 if filed for before AOS but is no additional cost if allied for with AOS. Lifting conditions from a conditional green card costs $545.

The only cost to factor in is the cost of a full medical if AOS is not filed for within 1 year of getting the K-3 visa."

AnneiyAndJacky,

I agree. The K3 is a nightmare. If I didnt file K3, my wife would have been here in the US with me already.

But you can't file K1 if you're already married. Well.. I guess you could BUT it's immigration fraud.
