Can anyone make sense of the following paragraph from the Tokyo Embassy website?

"K1 visa applicants must complete two copies of DS-156, and a copy of DS-156(K). Do not sign DS-156(K), we will ask to sign it at the interview. Each K2 via applicant must also submit two copies of DS-156. Form DS-156 must be filled out online. Handwritten or typed forms will not be accepted."

If DS-156 is an online form, how do you submit 2 copies? Are they saying submit one online and then print a second copy and bring it to the interview? It's not very clear.

I don't know if all the visas procedures are the same everywhere but I'll tell you what I did (and it worked).

Theres actually a DS-156 and DS-156k.

In your packet, you should have the DS-156k and you have to print from online the DS-156, am I right?

Write out DS-156k by pen (don't sign bottom!!!), and 2 x DS-156 on PC....

As far as I know, they tell you to bring back-ups, extra copies at the interview date, and that's just if they are missing some of your forms (example: you forgot to send form DS-156k by mail along with the other documents to the embassy).

So on the interview day the person will ask you to give him/her the missing documents, that's all.

I brought my extra copies in case, and I didn't need to use them at all because my folder at the embassy had everything in it already.

Hope I helped

You can't submit DS-156 online. You just can fill out the form online and once completed the form will be generated with a barcode to be printed. What you need to do is to print 2 copies of the same form and take it with you to the interview. To play safe, print another copy in case it gets messed up with dirt or something (I am paranoid)
