the website gives the below answer.. but is it possible to get this temporary evidence after your biometric appointment?

If you need to travel between the time you file an I-90 form and its approval, you must request temporary evidence of your permanent resident status, valid for travel and/or employment purposes, at the time you complete the fingerprint and signature requirements (necessary for the adjudication of the Form I-90 and the issuance of the replacement card) at the appropriate INS office.

Kezzie, I'm new to this forum.. what's an NOA?

my problem is that I need to renew my driver's licence so I need to prove to the DMV that I am legal here so I need a letter with my married name on it.. my current resident card has my maiden name on it and they won't take that as everything has to be in the same name as my current licence -which is in my married name. Soooo frustrating!!

As far as traveling I do have my resident card with my maiden name on it which is the same as my passport. Of course I can't get through on the phone to anybody in USCIS to find out if I can still travel on this card if my new card is sent out in the mean time.

mig42,

why did you file I-90 in a first place (since you posted under "removing conditions")? What's the expiration date of your current GC? Have you had it for 2 or 10 years?

Your status does not expire when your GC does. Get an I-515 stamp, as suggested, if you want to travel problem free.

Is your new card gonna be in your married name?

OK - I just read your other post.

1. check out processing times for I-90 at your SC. That will give you an idea about the timeline.

2. NOA is Notice of Action, a form USCIS sends out to confirm the receipt or approval of a form/petition.

3. If you are not confortable re-entering the US with "old" GC, make Inforpass appointment and try to get a stamp in the passport. Although, I don't think it matters: GC is to confirm your status. New GC wan't change anything.

4. If DMV doesn't accept NOA, you'll have to wait for a new GC.

5. The name on your flight ticket should match your passport!
