There's the strategic goal and there are realities that will evolve and are impossible to predict. The last lot that tried the predictions got their ####### handed to them when the flowers they were expecting started to blow up. Bottom line is that the mission to the commanders will change. But the responsibility to our military and their safety, to the Iraqis and the region will remain. The nonsensical argument that's attempted to be made here is one that Obama - or anyone else that would focus on changing a badly failed policy and focus on bringing the troops home - can't win. It's an argument that is not worth getting into.

Obama has established that his goal is to end the occupation of Iraq. And he has made clear that he will pursue that goal with the safety of the troops and the stability of the region in mind. It's a multi-faceted and broad approach. Too broad, perhaps, to fit into the neo-cons black-and-white world. God forbid we have a President that actually adjusts policy to reality rather than trying to bend reality to fit policy.

So why does he say on his web site that he WILL bring home the troops in 16 months? Why does he state that in his campaign speeches? It sounds like he knows that it isn't going to happen but he says it anyway to get support from the anti-war crowd. Very dishonest if you ask me. In short, the same old sh!t and no change. Why do you support him?

From his own web site:

Bringing Our Troops Home

Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months. Obama will make it clear that we will not build any permanent bases in Iraq. He will keep some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy and diplomats; if al Qaeda attempts to build a base within Iraq, he will keep troops in Iraq or elsewhere in the region to carry out targeted strikes on al Qaeda.

There isn't any room in that statement for ambiguity. He is making a hard and fast promise. One that you just said he may not be able to keep. Can you say pandering?

Can you say sense of reality? It's pretty clear what he proposes. If you chose to take notice.
