I tried RFE trick with CSC yesterday and got the same answer like you. I didn't really receive a RFE, but I know I will, since I have not include some MUST HAVE documents with my application. Still, they told me to not call them and just wait too. I then said I waited for 5months and I just want to get prepared since RFE will be coming to me. The officer said it is not your turn and you will have at least 2 more months of wait time!! I mean, I am a Nov filer, so shouldn't it be my turn soon?!

Sigh...

you seriously don't think that USCIS is stupid enough to not have anyone read this forum? RFE trick, if kept under the covers, would've continued to work, but looks like we are chatting in open about it left and right. i am sorry. to me, that's a sitting duck!

but don't give up hope, as there are nice individuals everywhere in the world, so is the case for USCIS. you never know how the officer answering your phone is until you talk to them. i say, still give RFE a sincere shot...it may just work for some people.

Posted

It only works if its used in the correct way. From what I've been reading on the forums, ppl are just using it to use it so it doesn't surprise me to read that it's not working. It's not meant to be used as a trick anyway. It's used to find out information after you have had 2 or more touches in a row. If you haven't had a couple of touches in a row, it's not going to do any of you any good to call and use it because it's not going to work. USCIS records every time you call so if you continually call them asking about an RFE, they might think something is up with your case, but that is my opinion.

If you don't have an RFE, don't call the dang RFE line! There is no 'trick"!!!!

The trick is that if you actually get through to an officer, you get touches on your file the next day which gives you false hopes of something actually happening with your case. Then when you find out it didn't really accomplish anything but waste the officer's time it's YOU who have been tricked! I personally called twice and it really didn't do anything for me, and my case took 8 months to NOA2! The only thing that seemed to work was the congressional inquiry, but perhaps things would have moved on their own at that point. Who knows. That's not an option to anyone these days unless there really is something wrong with your case since they're approving petitions after only 4-5 months now and you aren't supposed to contact the USCIS unless they're beyond the dates on their page or it's been over 180 days. Looking at the statistics chart for IR1/CR1 there are three months worth of summer filers who had waited over 400 days from NOA1 to interview. Things have sped up at USCIS and seem to be continuing on that trend. I know that any amount of time away from your loved ones is painful, but a lot of you don't realize how good you've got it. Poor gogo's petitions still haven't been approved and he filed over a year ago now. Keep the faith. You, too, will make it through USCIS. You just have to wait. If you get an RFE then call the RFE line. If you don't, don't. You'll just be giving yourself false hopes when you see the touch online the next day. It doesn't mean anything more than they went and looked at your case, saw the date and put you back.

Patience, people. This is all a process, whethere we like it or not. Disrupting that process usually doesn't generate much of anything.

I personally believe that the RFE trick is useless. The best thing is to just wait it out. Interupting people with phone calls trying to get your case done faster just slows every case up and will get your case assigned to the problem stack ( yes there is one ) and make it actually take longer.

at VSC they are not even updating touches..so actually there is no false hope. I think people here just want to know that their case is even THERE and not lost

If you call and talk to an officer and not one of the call centre people, it usually will spur a touch if they actually went and retrieved the paper file. They might not even go as far as that if they see it's for someone who only filed in January when they're still clearing out petitions filed months before then. If you got NOA1, it's pretty safe to say that your case is there and not lost. Given the amount of petitions which pass through these service centres (not just marriage or family based!) the incidence of a lost case is EXTREMELY low. Any time anything happens with the physical file, it is scanned in (via barcode) and scanned out. Every one who has ever had their fingers on the case is logged electronically and any officer at any time can pull up on the computer and see exactly what box it's in or who's desk it's on and where. I know it's tough when you see people who filed after you getting approvals; I've been there. Heck how do you think I feel as a July filer being at the NVC at the same time as a January filer? You just have to wait. Calling them takes them away from dealing with cases where they are needed. I'd hate to be the person who really had an RFE and couldn't get through on the line because people who are well within the processing times are calling up to see if their petition is still there.

Exactly!! Wait it out. Want to know the moment you're approved? Set up email notification at the USCIS's Case Status Online. You can have the email sent straight to your cell phone. Almost all cell phones have email addresses and they come in as a text message. Here's some examples from the most popular carriers in the states:

AT&T (formerly Cingular): 2125551212@txt.att.net

Alltel: 2125551212@message.alltel.com

Sprint: 2125551212@messaging.sprintpcs.com

T-Mobile USA: 2125551212@tmomail.net

Replace 2125551212 with your 10 digit cell phone number. If you use a different carrier than these, check out this page that has the addresses used for almost every cell carrier, including some international ones: http://www.emailtextmessages.com/

If you set this up then the moment USCIS does something with your petition you'll know it, provided you have your cell phone with you at all times!

Hi guys,

As i said my husband called them today and they have not refused to give info but after all its the same story of " background checks" and to call back in 30 days...

We all know RFE is useless and it does nothing to expedite our cases. But guys some of us still do it just to feel good ( but sometimes end up feeling ####### ) bcz it goes direct to the service centre.

We just cant help it like we check the status several times a day. I bet SARAH or LOTOFPATIENCE would know the name for this sickness...

Good luck to all of you
