Maybe it's just me, but I've never seen healthcare as a burning issue. I mean, a huge chunk of the uninsured are illegal immigrants anyway so isn't it really an immigration issue?

Actually I know a lot of people who don't have health insurance. My parents(work for self), my sister, some other relatives and a bunch of friends. I would love if something was actually done but I don't honestly think any of the candidates can do enough to really change this anytime soon. The way it is, is so ingrained in our society that it would take decades to fix it IMO. Not just one presidency term.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

I just had a dental check-up and a filling which incurred submitted charges of around $1200, from which I can expect to pay between 10 and 20% - assuming my reading of the (convoluted) insurance terminology is accurate.

Even under private dental care in the in the UK a checkup and filling doesn't cost anything like that much.

I have no idea why this is.

Holy toledo, Batman. Last year I had a root canal, and a cap and it was a total of $850...and I only paid 15% of that. My dental and vision insurance is amazingly good. My health insurance is not, but I don't pay for either (they are part of my benefits package). I do, however pay for my children and it's nearly $700/month (just went up in April), though that is pre-tax at least.

Well, Troll you're fortunate to be young, holding a job with no kids. So, it's understandable that you have no worry with health insurance.

But many in the old industrial states are in their late 40's, 50's, 60's with no health insurance, no jobs or about to lose their jobs and facing foreclosure.

They are hurting and these problems are their daily realities. For them, they do not have the luxury to hope and chew fat over a cup of latte or a glass of pinot-noir. or to passionately engage in a cyber-discourse on a theory-based approaches to these problems and how one might solve them and effect CHANGE. That's what Obama offers to the academically inclined.

They want someone who can really do something about these problems like yesterday. I bet a whole bunch of folks-especially the older ones, like Obama but for many, when you're in real deep doo doo, you look for someone with a track record. On that score, Hillary at least had tried tackling health-care and failed she did on that try but at least she has the experience and wisdom borne out of that failure and experience. Just look at what the senate old hands are already saying about the prospect of getting real results on that issue. And whether you accept it or not, that old standby "Bubba" can chip in some good advice on tackling the economy. And as far as the democratic party goes there is no one in the party with more experience than Billary on handling problems from the executive end.

I might have to gate crash the presidential election party so that I can join Aggie in the Joyce endorsement. Failing that, I'll certainly wear a sign - Joyce in, we all win!

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
