This is why I get all over Steven for posting the ####### from Huffingtonpost. They have an obvious agenda. They post outrageous headlines, tilt the story and then hopes no one catches their deception. Very dishonest of them.

I have to say I'm with McCain on this one, though perhaps not for the same reasons. I don't see why we need a bill for this. It should not have to be spelled out. Where women are being paid less for equal work, they already have the right to protest.

I think when we have laws to "make people equal", by law we are saying they are not. Where any law reads "man" or "person" it should be assumed to include all humans.

I can tell you that if I ever discover that all other things being equal (i.e. experience, job description, etc.) I'm being paid less than anyone else, whether that's a man or a woman, I'm going to cause a royal stink about it, and you can bet that if the person being paid more than me is a White man, I'll have the press and every class action lawyer behind me even without a law on the books that says I should be paid equal, and there is no way that my point won't be taken.

BTW at a budget meeting a few days ago, they told us what the total base pay for my organization is and the headcount. I figured the average and I am 32% below the average.

Very disappointing.

And I'm not even a woman!

32% is a lot! :o Are you going to bring this up to your HR person?

The House already has passed the measure in the wake of the 5-to-4 Supreme Court ruling, which said that employees must file a formal complaint within 180 days of an employer's initial decision to pay them less than what they think is fair.

...

The measure, now in the Senate, would extend the deadline for filing a complaint. It would have each discriminatory paycheck trigger a new claim-filing period, that is, another 180-day window in which to file a case with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Yeah, so I agree with McCain. Totally unnecessary IMO.

OMG am I turning into a Republican? Someone put me out of my misery!
