New Poll: Americans Prefer House (enforcement-only) Approach on Immigration

I wonder if it's possible that women perceive illegal immigrants to be more of a threat to traditional "women's occupations" than traditional "men's occupations." Think of how many illegal immigrants are working as nursing assistants, day-care workers, nannies, and housekeepers and you'll get the idea.

Edit - I know I can't spell generalization and I cant edit properly either - pushing buttons too fast lol

oh my! a brit that can't spell?

Looks like women are more hawkish on immigration than men are! I wonder why. Anyone have any theories?
I do. But I think it's better I keep them to myself. :innocent:
Sorry, that is not permissible. You must share :P

May as well ask the captain to lock this thread right now.

Once I'd share, this would be locked in no time...

Well, you've hanged yourself already with that lead-in, Reinhard. Whatever you were going to say probably would not have been nearly as dramatic without the protracted teasing.

He's bluffing.

Yeap, he's got nothing.

The poll has regional data as well. However, the regional differences would show up in both men and women. The aggregate numbers for women are much different than that for men, and that tells me there's something that cuts across the various regions. Of course, I could be wrong. I usually am.

Women hate other women and they don't want foreign girls coming here to take their men or they think the men that find women in another country are pathetic.

Generalization.....yes, but an attempt to start to explain the numbers. I could be crazy.

I'm sure that's part of it. I bet if Latinas didn't look the way they did the numbers would be different :P

Nice try, but I think women are actually less likely to vote or otherwise act against their economic self-interest than men. Note, for example, how many votes Bush got among white working-class men, even when it was clear that the policies he intended to enact would have hurt their jobs the most.

I think it's more economic than anything else. Now, it's still a bias on the part of women. But I don't think it's as simple as a fear of foreign women "taking" American men, as I think that women who come here illegally tend to come with families already.
