Change of Address

Hi,

Today we changed the address on our I-130 and I-485 (online through the USCIS website), and the new address has a different nearest local office. By changing the address, when our case is transferred to the local office, will it in fact be the new local office, or will it go to the old one? Thanks!

It will probably go to a new one if your are located farther away from the original one.

Now there are a lot of horror stories about changing addresses, so if you can make an infopass appointment to make sure they have the correct address written down. Do a search in the forum about the AR-11 and see what people say...

You might want to file the same document and send it to your local office as well as USCIS.

Yeah, I will try to keep calling them regularly. I talked with them on the phone today, though, and they did confirm that the system correctly registered the address change. It's kind of a good thing that we are changing the address almost two weeks before we actually do change addresses, and if stuff goes to either address until then, we will either receive it or it will be going to a mailing address that we can trust with our lives.

But we are prepared to keep on calling, and thankfully, our case has yet to be transferred to ANY local office. Hopefully the address change will get registered well in advance of when that actually happens, so everything will work out correctly.

Yeah, that's the process we followed. Unfortunately, it had no effect on our interview location. It's in Detroit, so we will be traveling to Detroit for it. Better that than worry about rescheduling.

It doesn't say anywhere anything about affecting the interview location on the link you provided anyway. I think we needed to change address MUCH earlier than we did.
