Freedom of choice--where it exists, that is--also means that anyone can protest what they see as injustices, with the intention of calling attention to them. And you have the freedom to ignore those greasy hippies and give kudos to China for standing their ground.

Certain groups, usually with left wing views, feel they have the right to disrupt somebody else's life to get their way. That is not what democracy is all about. San Fransisco, for example, is the city of gays / lesbians. Good for them. I will not live there. Freedom of choice. But how would they like it if everyone else, the millions, who disagrees with them went and basically tore down the city and disrupted their way of life.

Anyone want to steer the discussion back to China?

Yes - we really don't need another irrelevant tangent.

and where exactly are gays/lesbians tearing down a city???

It's the point. Conservatives rarely protest. Too busy working and looking after their families rather than relying on the government or trying to ram their opinion down somebody else's throat. Whereas liberals almost look for the chance to protest about something.

or your irrelevant view of China.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

LOL I wondered what gays had to do with China....cuz I doubt there are too many gays running around China...actually, maybe it's a place BooYah should live, seeing as he appreciates the government there so much.

More to the point - how are they "disrupting somebody else's life to get their way"?

I mean - what's the point here? That we should pretend that social injustice doesn't exist - that there aren't things that people are deeply unhappy about and want redress?

It would be irrelevant if I were the only person who holds that view. Safe to say - that I am not. If anything you're the one in the minority.

Gays was just an example. How certain groups who complain about the way somebody lives, have contradictory views when somebody disagrees with their views / lifestyle. I am sure there are a lot of people in China who disagree with the protesters choices.

Just because a handful of the usual people back your views does not mean that everybody supports them..

I'd say the massive world-wide protests, as well as the official and long-standing condemnation of numerous human rights organisations, world governments and the UN do that. IMO of course.

My issue is with people who fail to accept that others have opposing views. If a country still wants to be communist then it is their right to do so. Not ours to tell them what they should be.

What's the point - even if a Democratic president is as bad or worse than the current lot what difference would it make?

You're still saying people should shut up about the things that bother them politically...
