Now that we have the visa in hand, we are trying to familiarize ourselves as much as possible with the AOS process. I have a question about the Local CIS office we will be attending for biometrics/interview and such.

After marriage, my fiance and I will be living in Northern Kentucky. There is a Local CIS office in Louisville Ky which is 1 hour and 30 minutes away from us. There is also a Local CIS office located in Cincinnati Ohio which is 5 minutes from where we will live.

Will our file get sent to the nearest Local CIS office, (which would be in Cincinnati) or will it be sent to the office in the state in which we will live?

Completely unsure...

Thanks

Steph

According to the AOS guide:

When filing for Adjustment of Status K1 and K3 Visa holders are now required to submit their paperwork to the National Address (Chicago Lockbox) instead of at their local CIS office. This procedure became effective for all applicants in April 2005. If you live in Texas, Oklahoma or New Mexico you may be required to follow special application procedures. Please read here to find out if this applies to you.

You can read the complete Guide here: Step By Step Guide: AOS for K-1 and K-3 holders.

 That was not the answer for what you asked! Sorry! That info. is to file for AOS.

Back to your question, it is advisable not to move after applying for AOS. I think the CIS Office in Chicago will send your file to the Local CIS office of the place where you were living when you filed. I'm sure there is a way to notify them that you have changed your address, but I don't know if it causes any delays.

How soon after getting married will you be moving to Kentucky? If its right after, then it might be better for you to file for AOS until you get there.

Biometrics will be at an Application Support Center (ASC) not the local USCIS office. Each area is "regionalized" and they should send you to the nearest facility.. emphasis on should...

Since this is an AOS question and not a K-1 question I will move to the appropriate forum
