My husband had his AOS interview last September. FBI was conducting a security check on us which took 7 months to complete. We received a letter dated April 10th from Baltimore local office saying that his application for lawful permanent residence has been approved and we will receive the resident card will be mailed directly from the INS Service center within the next 9 to 12 months. More waiting....

BUT today we received two I-797 Notice of Action from the Vermont Service Center saying "your application for permanent resident status is being processed. If approved, a permanent resident card will be mailed to you directly from our immigration card facility" It had a new receipt number and it called I181 Creation of Record of Lawful Permanent Residence. I looked it up on USICS website and it said "This case has been approved. On May 4, 2006, an approval notice was mailed". Why are we getting two approval notices? Where is the card? Is this normal?

Thanks.

This seems pretty convoluted. But if the notice says "An approval notice was mailed on May 4" then it should arrive in a few days. This wording actually means that the card is included with the approval notice and you should get the GC very soon.

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

03-01-2006 AOS interview -- approved; received stamp in the passport

03-13-2006 Green card arrived in the mail

Congrats - One question - I am curious what date the green card has on it - The AOS interview date (from a year ago) or the approval letter date from May or some other date? I am assuming it's the May date. See you in 2 years if that's the case.
